Perfume Bargain Alert!

While pottering up and down the aisles in Boots yesterday, I came across a Juicy Couture rollerball perfume set.  I'd seen it before Christmas for the steep price of €39.  This was half price at €19 so had to be bought! It contains Juicy Couture, Viva La Juicy and Couture Couture in rollerball form which is perfect for carrying in one's handbag.  Get one while they last and sorry I can't post a photo of it :)

My favourite blogs of 2010!

Since I can't upload photos this week, I'm trying to figure out what to what i can blog about!  I decided to write about the websites I look forward to reading the most every day.

First is the amazing Beaut.ie  Love this site for reviews, swatches, forums and the Swap Siopa for any beauty products you don't want and wanna swap.

I stumbled across this welshbeautyblog  over the Christmas and spent ages reading all of the posts and she has made me want a Tom Ford lipstick hehe.

Lee's blog has articles, reviews, fashion, fantastic weight loss inspiration and most importantly, she has a cute doggy, Muffin hehe Check it out at mwah.ie

Next up is Eadaoin's photo blog.  This girl is seriously talented and her photos are absolutely gorgeous.  I always feel calm, peaceful and nostalgic for some reason after looking at her photographs.  Please check it out now!

Now we have primp and preen. I love the reviews and FOTD posts and she always makes me want to try wearing darker lipstick!

Next up is Nicoletta's Beauty Space.  Nicoletta does fantastic reviews and makeup looks, how-tos and random posts that make me happy :)

Lollipop Loves  is next on the list :)  I love her monthly favourite posts, reviews but my most favouritest posts of all are the "What I learned this month" posts.  They always make me want to stop and think about the little things, so I love that.  Check it out to see what I mean :)

Last, but by no means least is an up and coming food blog called The Cook's Belly.  I love reading reviews on restaurants that I'd actually go to and since I'm a mental collector of cookbooks, this saves me space since Will posts recipes too :)

Am I missing any? If there are any blogs that I should add to my favourite collection, leave a comment below and I'll check it out :)

I'll be back!

Hey all, just a little post to say that I'm still alive and well and just not near a proper internet connection :)  We're staying with my mam over the Christmas and it has been an unplanned extended trip because if we (my sister and I) weren't staying with her, she'd be on her own, so family duty calls :)  Can't be having people on their own at Christmas.

Anyway, I've done a bit of shopping with my Christmas money and got some nice bits that I'll show the class when I'm back in the land of proper internet, hopefully this weekend.

I hope everyone has a lovely New Year's tomorrow, I hate New Year's Eve so shall be laying low, pondering 2010 and thinking of 2011, hopefully this will be my year :)

See you soon!

New Year's Resolutions

Well, it's that time of the year where I make resolutions and try to stick to them :)  I'm not a huge believer in suddenly deciding that it being January 1st will make me stick to my word about things, but it's the idea that it's a new year and a blank slate and another chance to make this new year a good one.

I have another week or so to finalize my list, but these are things I've been thinking about for a while now, so I don't mind putting them down here :)

First of all, I want to lose weight this year.  Some of the girls at work are with me and our plan is to have our own weekly weigh in and keep each other motivated.  We did this earlier in the year and it worked great, now there are more of us to keep each other going :)  I've been really motivated by Lee's weightloss journey here and might blog about mine too if I feel brave enough hehe

Second on my list is to find another source of income.  Circumstances outside my control has led me to have a big legal bill and along with paying a mortgage on my own for almost 2 years, I will have to find the money to pay for this, so I need to knuckle down even more somehow.  It's very frustrating to be at the mercy of someone who wants to drag things out for some reason instead of finishing it.  I'd love to be finally free and have no ties to said person anymore.

On to the more fun ones hehe I'm aiming to make a conscious effort to take better care of my skin.  This means using a cleanser, toner and moisturiser, and maybe a serum, every day.  I've been so lazy lately and makeup wipes have been my only skincare really, moisturiser too, but not always.  I got money for Christmas so I'm gonna treat myself to some decent skincare tomorrow hopefully.  I'll still use wipes to take my makeup off, but then I'll use my skincare system whenever I get it.

I'm resolving to update my blog at least every second day.  I lost my mojo recently and just haven't had the energy to blog.  I lost my inspiration and motivation so I just need to get it back.

I would love to actually finish a bottle of nail varnish hehe I've never been even close to doing that, but would love to see if it's actually possible!

I collect cookbooks and love looking through them for inspiration.  I want to cook one new dish every second week at the minimum.

These are just the thoughts that have been knocking around my head over the past few weeks.  I might update it as more ideas come to me :)

Do you have any resolutions?  Let us all know in the comments below :)

Ins and Outs December 2010

Ins:
My winter boots!  They are very amazing and soooo worth the spondoolies.  They have been my lifesavers this week and it means I can walk in slush and snow and not worry about getting cold, wet feet!  I also got the spike thingys that you pull over your shoes, so when this snow starts to turn to ice, I'm sorted :)

My new curtains.  I finally put them up, all by my own self.  Take note people, if you buy the cheapy curtain rails from Ikea, the package contains the pole, the knobby bits that go on either end of the pole, the curtain bracket thingys and no screws to attach said bracket thingys into the wall.  My room is now lovely and warmy cozy.

Christmas holidays.  I think I'm looking forward to the break itself more so than the fact that it's Christmas.  I lost my Dad to cancer last year and this will be our second Christmas without him.  He loved this time of the year and it's hard without him, so hopefully we'll do what we did last year and batten down the hatches and get it over with.  Roll on 4pm December 23rd, am off from then till January 4th!!

Bailey.  The cutest dog ever loves the snow and refuses to listen to me when I'm trying to get him back inside hehe  He's a brat and my pal.

Outs:
Snow.  Snow can feck off now.  I lived in Canada for a few years and have seen proper snowy winters.  Due to this vast experience of shovelling snow out of the driveway, only for a snow plough to push it back in, I have tried to explain to my co-workers that yes, the snow is lovely for that first day.  Then, the pain in the arse-ness kicks in.  I tried to explain this to them a couple of weeks ago when the first snow came and they didn't take any heed.  I think they believe me now hehe  I hope everyone reading will be where they want to be this Christmas :)

Sophie Kinsella's latest Shopaholic book.  It's called Mini Shopaholic.  I enjoyed the first few books in this series but for some reason, this one irritated me!  I think it was the fact that the main character, Becky Bloomwood lies to every single person she meets, she's insane!  I did finish it, it kills me not to finish a book heh  I wouldn't recommend it though.

Lost mojo.  I love blogging but for some reason, I've lost my mojo recently.  I think a big clear out of my bedroom and all the junk will help clear the head.  I also need to sit down and go through and organise my makeup.  I think doing this will get me back on track, so hopefully over the Christmas period, I'll get my arse into gear.  My mam has no internet where she lives so I'll enjoy the break and get cracking in the New Year.

New Years Eve.  Hate it.  Always have, probably always will.

Happy Christmas to all, eat, drink and be merry :)  Thanks for taking the time to read, follow and comment on my blog, I really do appreciate you all :)

Soap & Glory set from Boots

Well ladies, when I heard this little beauty was on sale in Boots last weekend, I couldn't resist picking one up.  I got the Soap & glory hat box set last year and loved it loads.  So for the great price of €30, this is what you get:

Here comes the breakdown.  First of all you get the bag it comes in:

And the foldable box inside the bag:

Now on to the products.  I'll review them properly as I use them. Starting off we have the massive pink puff!

Next up are the face wipes.  I'm a big fan of face wipes and am looking forward to trying them out.  I tried ones from Penneys recently and think they were the culprits in causing a breakout on my skin.

Next comes Butter Up body smoothing cream.  I got this in last year's set and never used it.  A new year's resolution of mine is going to be to use body lotion every day.  I'm very lazy when it comes to that :)

Then we have The Breakfast Scrub.  This is an exfoliator that smells yummedy.  It says it has a great maple fragrance and that it does, can't wait to try this.

Next is my favourite product from last year's set and I would recommend everyone tries this.  It's Flake Away body polish and is fandabbydozey.  I used this before self tanning and it really does do what it says on the tin.  A review will follow.

Glad Hair Day is the next product.  I love trying new shampoos and cannot wait to try this one.  The packaging tells me all the bits I want to hear and hopefully it lives up to my expectations.  Might have to give it a go tonight!

Next is Hand Food.  This was also in last year's set but I think this is a bigger tube.  I'm also very lazy with handcream and another resolution is to use it before going to bed every night.

The Righteous Butter is next on the list.  It was also in last year's set as far as I can remember but a much smaller tub.  This will be added to my resolution-making set of products :)

Nearly there!  Clean on Me shower gel is next.  It comes in a huge pump-dispensing bottle that's perfect for the shower.

Next comes the product I'm most excited by, it's Scrub your Nose in it.  I've read good things about this one and will be using it tonight in the shower.  I'm all about refining my large pores and preventing blemishes so I like the sound of it already.  I was going to buy this at some point to try it out, this just saved me the bother :)

Second last is Sexy Motherpucker in Pink Apricot.  Not mad on this at all.  Had a go of it this evening and felt like I had an electric shock going through my lips, not a nice feeling at all, but if you're interested, here's a pic.

Finally we have Girligo Spray-on Body Moisturising Mist.  From what I can remember, this came in last year's set too, but I have so much perfume that I don't think I ever really used it.

So that's it folks!  It was a pain in the arse carrying it through town, but worth it for the amount of products you get.  It's a great way to try a bunch of Soap and Glory products without having to spend a fortune and it makes a great gift for a lovely girlie :)

I'll do my best to use and review as many of the products as possible soon.  Am now focussed on how to get to my mam's for Christmas with all this snow!

Tag: 40 Beauty Questions

I'm exhausted from a day of DIY so I decided to do one of these beauty question posts for the craic.  I found it here on one of my new follower's blogs and loved it so had to do it :)

Skincare:
How many times do you wash your face daily?
Once, in the evening, am too lazy in the morning.

What skin type do you have?
Combination oily/normal

What is your current facial wash?
I have a couple but at the mo' I switch between Neutrogena's Visibly Clear 2 in 1 Facial Wash and Mask, and my Pears transparent soap.
Do you exfoliate?
Yep, a couple of times a week.
What brand do you use?
I use Soap and Glory The Greatest Scrub of All, or I'll use my facial wash/soap with a facial buffer sponge thingy.
What moisturiser do you use?
Aldi's Lacura brand! It's lovely and cheap as chips :)
Do you have freckles?
Yes.

Do you use an eye cream?
I used to but then about two years ago, I developed a cyst under my eye and had to get it removed.  I still don't know what caused it but I'm afraid to use an eye cream in case that's what it was.
Do you or did you have acne prone skin?
Not acne, but I did have a breakout or two in my time!  Nowadays my skin is ok, except for the breakout I had about 2 weeks ago, I think I know what the culprit was, blog post to follow :)

Did you ever have to use Proactiv?
Nope.
Make-up:
What foundation do you use?
Gosh Natural Touch Foundation
How about concealer?
Not really.
Do you know your undertone colour?
Not a clue.  I'm an NW15 in Mac foundations, whatever that means.

What do you think of fake eyelashes?
Love them!  They're great for adding a bit of drama to a makeup look.

Did you know what you are supposed to change your mascara every three months?
Yep, but I don't always, bad me.

What brand of mascara do you use?
Maybelline Lash Stiletto or Rimmel Lash Accelerator.
Sephora or MAC?
MAC, cause there is no Sephora in Ireland, but when I go to NY, it's Sephora all the way!

Do you have a MAC Pro-card?
No.

What make-up tools do you use in application?
Brushes.
Do you use a make-up base/primer for the eyes?
Always.  My eyeshadow always creases so it's a necessity pour moi!
For the face?
Only use a facial primer if I'm going out for the night, not during the day.

What is your favourite eyeshadow (colour or shade)?
Stila's Kitten.  Perfect everyday eyeshadow.
Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?
Liquid on lid, pencil on waterline.

How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil?
Never so far, I do however poke myself with mascara wand all the time.
What do you think of pigment shadows?
Too messy.
Do you use mineral makeup?
No, I tried the Bare Minerals a couple of years ago but felt like it gave me no coverage at all.
What's your favourite lipstick?
It's a Sephora one, I think it's called Romantic Rose or something like that.

How about lipgloss?
Love Barry M's pink one, not sure of the shade but it's gorgeous.

What is your favourite blush to use?
MEMEME's Shimmy Shimmers in Pink, gorrrrrgeous.
Do you buy your makeup on ebay?
No.

Do you like drugstore makeup?
Deffo, you can get great bargains there.
Do you go to CCO's? (cosmetic company outlets)
Not in Ireland but again, when in NY, we always head to Woodbury Commons and I spend a small fortune in the CCO.
Did you ever consider taking make-up classes?
Yeah but they're so expensive.
Are you clumsy in putting on make-up?
Sometimes, if I'm doing something I've never done before or if I'm pressed for time, but ususally I'm ok.

Name a make-up crime that you hate.
Foundation line or foundation streaks.

Do you like colourful shades or makeup or neutral ones?
Neutral shades.

Which celebrity always has great make-up?
Kim Kardashian or Cheryl Cole.

If you could leave the house using just one make-up item, what would you use?
Foundation hands down.
Could you ever leave the house without any make-up on?
Yes.

Do you think you look good even without any make-up on?
In the summer it's not too bad, these cold days, I look like death hehe
In your opinion, what is the best make-up line?
That's a hard one, there's no one brand that I'm loyal to for every kind of product.  I love trying different products from many companies, be they cheap or expensive.  At the moment I'm going through a bargain finding mission, so am loving MUA from Superdrug and Sleek makeup.  Will think about this one :)

I tag you (everyone reading this) to leave your answers to the above questions in the comments or post it on your blog

Christmassy nails!

Last weekend I treated myself to Jolly Holly by China Glaze, it's Christmas after all!  I love it, it's the perfect forest green colour and very festive, so on it went.  These are my poor nails after about 2 days.  Now, in fairness, I didn't use a topcoat and my nails aren't treated very well where I work, so this was them a half an hour ago :)

Me being lazy and not wanting to take it all off to start again, I brought out the big guns!  It was time for China Glaze's Party Hearty to help me out.  You can read more about Party Hearty here.

On the left is Party Hearty and on the right is Jolly Holly.

Here comes the obligatory apology for the state of my cuticles, nails and application :)

I tried so hard to take photos that would do the nail varnish justice, but it wasn't to happen.  Above is with a flash.  In person, the glitter is so sparkley and twinkley and no matter what I tried, it wouldn't translate in the photo!
This is with no flash.  I'm happy with the results.  It means I don't have to do my nails from scratch and it'll get me through Friday :)  Christmas is a time for glitter, be it with eyeliner or eyelashes, go for it now!!

My birthday pressies!

Well, yesterday was my thirty-somethingth birthday and I had a lovely day altogether :)  I got some brilliant presents thanks to friends and family and thought I'd share with you, now that I have a blog and all hehe

First of all, I got these gorgeous boots from my mam back in September from Aldo.  I've been looking for black boots for ages with a wedge and these are per-fect!  Love them a lot and was this close to buying them in brown, maybe in the sales?

I have been known to fall once or twice in my time, often with no alcohol involved so these give me the perfect stability to make sure I don't fall (hopefully!)

Next I got this Lucky Brand bag, an OPI nail varnish set and an NYX eyeshadow palette from my brother and sister.  Love them all so much and can't wait to use them!

Next we have some fantastic Spanish gifts from my love friend Pipi la Rue :)

The castanuelas are an inside joke and would be highly unfunny if I tried to explain it, I love them and keep them in my handbag for emergencies :)

Finally we have this piece of work.  I had been talking about wanting an everyday ring with Eadaoin from work and showed her the ones I kinda liked online.  Little did I know, she had filed this into her little head and went out in search of the perfect everyday ring for me.  This, ladies and gentlemen, is what she bought me:

Speechless is not the word hehe Yes, it is a pure gold-plated sovereign ring and quite a beauty at that.  We had such a laugh over lunch with it, I was made wear it for the rest of the day and Eadaoin made sure to check I was wearing it every time she came to visit heheeh I will direct you to the photo below, where my hand looks like Dec from Ant and Dec with his pinky ring. Yep, I'm a lucky girl hehee
Thanks to all for making my birthday so enjoyable and for all the lovely birthday wishes.  This year was definitely much better than last year.

My birthday weekend shopping Part 1 :)

I've been a bad blogger!  I haven't had the motivation to write due to absolute exhaustion from trying to get to work and back in one piece over the past couple of weeks.  Friday morning was particularly hilarious as my sister and I attempted  to make our way to the train station like two wrapped-up versions of Bambi, legs sliding all over the place!

Anyway, after not driving for two weeks, Saturday called for a trip to Newry to pick up my sister's ring that we're buying her for Christmas.  We got it and it's beautiful, will post pictures after Christmas :)  We had a wander in the shops and in the Buttercrane Centre, came across a very loud racket which we found to be the opening of Poundland!  A wonderous place where everything is a quid!  Needless to say, I managed to find the makeup in less than ten seconds, what can I say, it's a gift.

This is what I got, pretty restrained if you ask me!
I got Cover Girl's Clean Makeup in colour 240 natural beige and 225 buff beige.  Am looking forward to trying these out.

On the left is Gosh's Vitamin Booster nail care and on the right is Nail Whitener also from Gosh.  I was delighted with these!

Here is Revlon's nail growth treatment, step 3, didnt see the step 3 bit until I got home!  On the right is NYC Colour weel in Scarlet Letter.  Not sure about this but wanted to give it a go for a quid.

Top left we have Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Sheerest Cream Blush in Sunrise, top right is Sheerest Cream Blush in Ginger, and bottom is Natural Powder Blush in Plumberry.  I'm looking forward to trying these out.

Last of all from Poundland is Sally Hansen's Dry Kwik.  I'm really excited about trying this and I picked up an extra one for a future giveaway.  It's worth a try now isn't it?  I'm all about the bargains.  If these products are good, then I'll be delighted, if not, I've only spent a couple of pounds on them :)

It was my birthday yesterday and I got some brilliant presents, I'll try to organise myself and post tonight :)

Has anyone tried these products and if so, how didya get on?

Playing with glitter :)

Well, the Christmas season is upon us and what better time to break out the glitter!  A while ago I picked up the MUA glitter eyeliners from Superdrug and love them loads.  I was playing around with makeup last weekend but wasn't happy with the eye looks enough to put them up as step by step guides, but I did want to show you what I did to add a bit of sparkle!

Warning: What you are about to view is pure tacktastic!  I plopped some of the glitter liners over my eyelashes after the mascara had dried and ended up with sparkley eyelashes hehe

I've tried glittery mascaras in the past and whenever I've used them, they look like I've applied nothing whatsoever, so I binned them.  This is just for fun and would be grand for a New Years party for the craic :)

Nails today: Rimmel 397 Electric

I haven't put nail varnish on in ages because my nails are in bits, but Sunday night I really wanted to put something on to make me happy and forget about this freezing coldness we have going on now :)

Hello to Rimmel 397 Electric.

This is a gorgeous midnight blue nail varnish with tiny blue glitter in it.  I bought this ages ago after looking around the Chanel counter in town and trying their version of it, Blue Satin.  My sister and I fell in love with it and immediately went to Boots to find a more purse-friendly option.  She had Blue Satin on all of her nails on one hand and we did the other hand with Electric and we couldn't tell the difference.  That was enough for us :)  Sold!

I must issue you with the standard apology for application messiness, I was watching the X Factor results show at the time (don't get me started there!)

Collection 2000 Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner

I am rubbish at applying eyeliner.  Rubb-ish.  I end up making a mess of the wing, or making the line too thick, or having the two eyes be completely uneven.  I have really hooded eyelids, so I try not to make the line too thick, otherwise all you see is the line when I open my eye and none of the eyeshadow.

I picked up the Collection 2000 Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner in black last month and have been playing with it on and off.  For the most part, I think it's great for the price.  I can't remember exactly how much I paid for it, but I think it's £2.99 on some websites.  I took some photos to show you all.  Below we have a thin line and a thick line for comparison.

Please excuse the eyebrows in the close up photos below!  I have since tidied them up and they didn't look this bad in person, just in photos!  Anyway, below is one of my eyes lined halfway along the lashline.  This is great for work since it's not too dramatic.  What I loved about the felt tip liner was that you can be really accurate and careful, especially when doing the point of the wing.

Below, I was able to get really close to the lash line all the way along, making just a thin line with the pointiest part of the pen.

See?

I made a thicker line below, just to see how it turned out.

All in all, I love this liner.  I store it so that the tip is pointing down, that way the liquid doesn't dry out.  What I did notice was that because I was trying to be so careful and precise, it had a tendency to dry out a bit as I was messing around.  When this happened I just put the cap back on and left it upside down to let the liquid flow back into the tip.

You can also lie the tip of the liner horizontally along your eyelashes and drag it along the lash liner, to make a (hopefully) clean line.

The pigmentation is pretty good.  I would usually go over it with a black matte eyeshadow like this one to make sure it's really dark, but for work, it's grand.  I think this kind of product is great for someone learning how to use eyeliners without spending a lot of money.  It comes in black, purple, blue and teal.  I've my eye on the purple one next :)

As for the 24 hour claim?  Who wears eyeliner for 24 hours?!  I wore it to work one day and by the time I was coming home it had faded quite a bit.  It came off easily with a face wipe.  I've read a few blogs about it staining the skin but I didn't have that problem at all.

Go and check this out if you want to learn how to use a felt tip liner without the expense :)

A winter giggle

Aw lads, I've posted this on Facebook and Twitter because this video makes me laugh so much every single time I watch it hehe Word on the street is a couple of lads filmed this last week in Dublin of poor people on the ice.  I don't know what's funnier, yer man laughing or the people in the video.

Watch and laugh hehe

My Winter boots!!

Well, after the week that we all had with the snow and the ice, I am absolutely exhausted from trying not to die on the ice going to and from work!  One of the days I wore my Uggs on the journey to work, which became sponges and didn't dry by the time I put them on to go home, ugh, nothing worse than putting on wet shoes!  Then the rest of the days I wore runners which got soaked too from the slush, but would dry in work by home time.

On twitter last night one of the girls I follow said she'd gotten snow boots in Dunnes last year and she was kind enough to post a Twitpic of them so I knew what I was looking for.  When I described to my mam what I was looking for, she decided she wanted a pair too :)  Ladies, I walked town looking for snow boots!  All of the outdoor shops were sooooo busy and very unpleasant trying to look for the boots.  I looked everywhere starting in Penneys on Mary Street and made my way to TK MAXX in Stephen's Green Shopping Centre, stopping in every single shoe shop along Henry Street and Grafton Street.  Nada.

We ended up finding them in the last shop we were going to check!  We found them in a camping/outdoor wear shop called Ramblers Way on Mary Street for €89.99.  They had white/grey ones and black ones.  These are the ones I got:

They're so light and comfy and cosy.  I love them!!! These are my mams:

A friend of hers gave her these grip thingys for her shoes and she says they're amazing.  I'm gonna get some when they come back into stock.  Here they are:

You can barely even tell you have them on your shoes, see below :)

And finally we have some cosiness hehe I saw these in Penneys and had to buy myself a pair, along with a pair for my mam and sister, so here's a pic of the two of them.

These are the softest, comfiest, cosiest pj bottoms I've ever had!  The three of us are now watching the X Factor with them on hehe They were only €6, so an absolute must for these cold days :)  Please go into Penneys and even just feel them and try not to buy them!
