No 7 Exquisite Curl mascara review

*Disclosure - this was sent to me to review*

As you may know, I'm in search of the holy grail of mascaras.  95% of my mascaras are from the drug store/pharmacy these days because I've never found a high end mascara that I love and would want to repurchase.  This way, by buying them from the drug store, I get to try lots of mascaras for the price of one high end mascara :)

The latest installment of Search-for-Holy-Grail-mascara involves No 7 Exquisite Curl mascara.  I got the chance to try out the mascara in Black.

It has a thin, wet formulation which in my experience means no clumping.  The brush combs through the lashes making them really long and does curl them.  I have my own test when it comes to mascaras that claim to curl the lashes.  I have an eyelash on my left eye that grows downwards instead of out an up.  This means that whenever I apply mascara to my upper and lower lashes, that particular lash *always* catches in the lower lashes when I blink and is really really irritating!  It means that I end up fiddling with my lashes and trying to get it to curl upwards.  So needless to say, I spend a lot of time with my finger in my eye :)

I'll hand it to this mascara, it did curl my lashes and even better, it curled my wonky lash so I didn't have to keep trying to force it upwards.  It didn't really volumise my lashes too much though.  The photos above are all with one coat of mascara on each eye.  For me, one coat means dipping the wand into the tube and then working away at my eye for as long as it takes without dipping back in again.  I've been testing the mascara all week and have felt the consistency change and become slightly thicker, which happens with mascaras as they dry out, so I'm hoping in a week or two, the formula will have thickened even more to add volume.

For me, it's not a mascara I'd wear going out at night.  I need something that gives me lots of volume and length to help carry off the copious amount of makeup that I wear going out!  It is, however, a lovely mascara for daytime.  I wore it all week to work and it looked the same when I got home as when I first applied it that morning.

I'd give it a 4/5.  I don't have the Irish prices to hand, but right now, its £10 in Boots up until 23/02 when it'll be £13.

Has anyone else tried this mascara and if so, what were your experiences?

  1. Your eyelashes looks fantastic with the mascara. Are your natural lashes that long? or is it the mascara?
