Lovelygirliebits and ShopUSA introduction

I'm delighted to announce that Lovelygirliebits is going to be working with ShopUSA, a shipping company that are now going to make it easier for you to shop on American websites!

A few years ago, I ordered a bunch of items from Victoria's Secret.  I wasn't home when they delivered the box so I ended up having to drive all the way out to the UPS office, not knowing how much they were going to be charging me for customs, VAT and delivery.  When I arrived there and found out I had to pay them nearly the same amount as the products themselves, I was sick.  I will admit, it took the fun out of it for me.  Another time I ordered stuff from American Eagle and when the UPS man came to the door, I had to scramble for the cash to pay for the customs and VAT because I didn't know how much it was going to be.

When I first heard about ShopUSA on twitter a few months ago, I was intrigued.  I met up with Niall and Pat who explained the concept to me.  And I will *try* to explain it simply to you!

First and foremost - check that the website you're buying from accepts Irish credit cards.  If they don't (like Sephora *ahem*), then you can't use the service.

1. You register with ShopUSA.  Use your name and Irish address when registering.  They give you your own "address" in the States, so companies who don't ship to Ireland will ship your items to the warehouse in the States.  ShopUSA will in turn, ship to you.

2. Go online shopping!  This is the fun part!  Before you purchase the items, use the calculator on the ShopUSA website which will tell you exactly how much your final costs will be.  As in, the cost of your purchase, your customs, VAT and delivery.  This means no scares when you receive your shipment!

3. When purchasing the item from the website, enter your USA warehouse address in the shipping address fields, that's where it will be shipped to.

4. When you've finished purchasing the item, register the shipment on the ShopUSA website.  It'll ask you for the name of the website, the sales tax and basically anything that is on the invoice for the product you bought.

5. ShopUSA will ship your purchase to you from the warehouse and bish bosh you are done!

The main selling point here is that you'll know exactly how much you're going to be charged from the get go, there are no hidden fees.

Check out the ShopUSA website and have a look around.  There are FAQs, Terms and Conditions, a How-to video and most importantly, that calculator.  Here's where we come in to it.  ShopUSA have set up an ambassador program which basically means that we get a small fee when you make a purchase, if you've registered using our ambassador code.  Our code is IE00204 so if you'd like, you can enter in that code when registering.  You won't be charged anything for doing it, so don't worry! (No pressure :P)

Now, I will be putting my money where my mouth is ladies and I'm going to buy something this week and let you know my experience from start to finish.  If you have any questions at all, please send me an email or leave a comment below and I'll do my best to answer them.  If I can't answer them, I'll get on to the lads in ShopUSA!  My first stop will be Macys I think, followed swiftly by Bath and Body Works....

  1. was curious, I have registered with this site but haven't used it yet. Will be interested in how it goes for you.

  2. It'll be interesting to read about how your experience goes.

  3. Will be great to hear how things go and what you order, I read about this a while ago, thought it sounded good and then promptly forgot all about it!
