NOTD - Golden nails by Essence

I have Spandau Ballet's Gold in my head as I look at my lovely nails and now I hope you do too.  If you don't know what I'm talking about, you were not a child of the 80s and I feel old now.  If you do know what I'm talking about, open this in a new window and have a little sing along!

While shopping the other day, I picked up this fabulous polish but didn't stop there.  Nope, I went for gold (sorry) and bought three more polishes from Essence, two of which I'm going to show you here.  And yes, I'm allowed to buy four polishes at once, especially when they're only €1.29 but I will not have to justify when you see them.....

First up is the shade Irreplaceable.  This is a stunning nudey beige polish with tonnes of golden shimmer running through it and a hint of a olive shimmer too.  It's lovely and pigmented so two coats will do you grand.

It is, however, a pain to photograph.  Here's what I ended up with:

I couldn't leave it at that though.  No, I was born loving glitter polish and as much as I bitch and moan about trying to remove it, I will always love it, well in to my senior years....  Anyway, the next polish that had to go over the top of this was another of Essence's amazing dupes for a Deborah Lippmann polish.  In this case the Essence polish is called make it golden and is a dupe for Deborah Lippmann's Boom Boom Pow but that contains 24K gold dust and I don't really think we have the gold dust in Essence's offering!

irreplaceable (R), make it golden (L)
make it golden is a clear, thick jelly base with gold shimmer running through it and those amazing golden hexagonal shimmers in it.  Now, here is a photo with no flash.  You need to see these polishes in daylight but I didn't see any daylight at all today so you will have to trust me, spend the €2.58 on both polishes and try this combo out.

I just used one coat of the twinkley make it golden because I was feeling lazy.  I'd probably use two coats for maximum bling factor next time.  I got so many compliments on this combination and as I said already, it's gorgeous in daylight and even more bootiful in sunlight.  Twilight eat your heart out with your sparkles in the sun!

Do we like?  Am I alone in being an absolute magpie and being drawn to anything glittery, sparkley, twinkley, spingely, spangely?  I did get yet another Essence polish in my weeny haul.  It's a rosey pink version of make it golden.  Amazingballs....

  1. They look great together!

I kinda went whole hog at the Essence stand last night following your Deborah Lippman Dupe post.

Some really gorgeous colours, did you see In Style? A petrol navy & teal metallic number. Fabuloso!

  2. Loving the Make it Golden polish. Its a pain in the hole to get off though. The base colour comes off before the big glitter bits do. But its so pretty I can forgive that :)

They're just so cheap, how could you leave them there? I picked up a mascara, eyeshadow base and some nail drying stuff too! I definitely love Essence!!
