NOTD: I'm seeing silver spots

Well ladies, 'tis my 100th post and I can't believe I've written 99 other posts!  I usually get bored with things and don't stick to them and this is the first thing I've stuck with in ages :)  I love seeing new followers and comments and it spurs me on every day.

That being said, let's get on to the good stuff.  I was messing around online last night and came across The Daily Nail where I perused to my heart's content.  This girl is seriously talented and I am in awe of her talent, so when I came across this post, I got inspired to go ahead and try it.  I can do dots and that's about it hehe

For these nails, I used 2 coats of Barry M's Dusky Mauve all over the nails.  Then for the dots I used China Glaze's Cheers to You.  I used the end of a pair of tweezers to do the dots, I really must get a dotting tool (I had no idea such a thing existed until I read The Daily Nail!).  They're not perfect but I love them.  Oh, and I applied 2 coats of my new best buy-even-though-I-only-bought-it-yesterday-I-love-it-and-you-need-it Seche Vite.

I know it's all messy on my cuticles etc, but once I have a shower this evening, that'll be all gone :)  I'm looking forward to testing the power of Seche Vite at work tomorrow, will report back tomorrow evening :)

NOTD Rimmel Pop Rose

This is my lovely nail of the day girls :)  I got it a couple of years ago and it's one of my all time favourite nail polishes.  The really long proper name is Rimmel London Lycra Pro Professional Finish in the colour 293 Pop Rose.  It's a gorgeous Barbie bubblegum pink and it makes me pretend it's summertime outside :)

It has one of those maxi brushes that I couldn't take a proper photo of to save my life.  I'll have to try doing my sister's nails and show it to you properly.  Suffice to say, if you see any of the Rimmel nail polishes in a colour you love with this brush, buy it!  As you may know, I'm so messy when it comes to applying nail polish, but I don't mind, the bits on my cuticles and fingers usually wash away after a shower.

But look at what I did all by my own self with no cleaning up or nothin!

This is 2 coats of Pop Rose and a coat of my newly acquired Seche Vite which shall be reviewed soon.  Love love love!

Stylish Blog Award :)

The lovely Jude over at Love Lust & Fairy Dust presented moi with the Stylish blogger award so thanks Jude for my first award ever :)

Here's how to present the Stylish Blogger Award to the fabulous blogs that you follow:-

1.  Thank and link back to the person who awarded you this award.

2.  Share 7 facts about yourself.

3.  Award 15 of your recently discovered bloggers.

4.  Contact the bloggers and inform them about the award.

Sooooooo
1. I work in a hospital and am the most squeamish person you'll meet!  My colleagues enjoy turning my stomach at every chance they have (especially Pili and Eadaoin!)
2. I collect cookbooks and have an obscene amount of them :)
3. I lovvvvve New York and have been there many times over the past 14 years.  We brought my mam for her 50th a few years ago and she was terrified and was convinced we were going to be mugged/kidnapped etc.  I reassured her that in alllll my times there, nothing had happened to me and I'd walked around on my own plenty.  Cut to us heading to the drug store around the corner from the hotel and seeing police tape all over the place.  A lunatic had stabbed 7 people and had been shot by the police.  I thought, let's avoid this scene and went into the side of the drug store, only to be faced by paramedics working on one of the poor victims?!  Poor mammy :)  She's come with us plenty more times since then and nothing's happened hehe

4. I fall, a lot.  Even when sober.  Yep, I'm a clumsy eejit.  I managed to fracture my ankle a couple of years ago when I was stepping down one step with a bunch of stuff in my hands.  I will never forget the sound of the crunch of my ankle when I rolled over on it, still turns my stomach thinking of it (squeamish me!)

5. I used to work in a castle, Dublin Castle that is.  Not many people can say they worked in a castle hehe They filmed the Tudors there for a couple of summers and of course we had to hang out the window looking at Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Good times eh Ruth and Andrea?

6. I am a beauty blogger and have never had a facial, or a massage, or a manicure hehe  I feel weird at the thought of it, maybe one day I'll change my mind :)  I will never have a pedicure I can tell you that much, the thought of a stranger at my feet freaks me out!

7. I have 2 tattoos and want another one.  I know what I want, I just have to find the right picture.  I think I know where I want it too, so when I get it done, I'll post a picture.

Now, onto the 15 bloggers.  I follow lots of blogs, so these are in no particular order and I'm sure I'll forget some that I love, so sorry in advance!

Catrice Stay On Eyeliner Pencil

I bought these beauties about 3 weeks ago in one of my local pharmacies while killing time waiting for my sister :)  I will now divulge which pharmacy it was because they have bargains galore in the makeup department and while I wanted to keep it to myself, I want to tell everyone about it more!  It's Tully's Pharmacy in Raheny, beside the library.  I never went into it because it's not on my way home so one day off I went.  Lads, they have 4 baskets of makeup that is half price Gosh, Catrice, Loreal and probably more that I can't think of right now.  Granted, some of the stuff has been opened, so you need to be careful, but a lot of it is still packaged shut.  I got a Gosh lip jam that I lovvvve for €4, some Gosh nail varnish for €4 and then these eyeliners for €1.50 each, half price :)

Now, I had a legitimate reason for even looking for these!  I've been wanting to get a midnight blue eyeliner and while this is still January and we haven't been paid in ages, the Bobbi Brown Sapphire eyeliner that I want, is off the list until payday.  I saw the Catrice stand had these liners and when I saw and swatched the midnight blue one, conveniently called Midnight Blue, I knew I had to have it.  Then when I had a root through the baskets and saw the other three, I knew I had a great bargain.

The brown one is called 020 Dark Brown and is gorgeous and creamy and so easy to apply.  I've worn this to work a couple of times since getting it and love it.  The 060 Midnight Blue shade is a shimmer navy with tiny blue and silvery/pinky glitter running through it.  The light blue one is called 040 Icy Blue and is lovely and shimmery, perfect for the inner corner.  Finally the green one is called 050 Mystic Green and is a shimmery dark green colour.

The liner itself twists up out of the tube which is great, I hate messing around with sharpeners.  This means you can really get stuck in when applying it right into the lash lines and not have to worry about it losing the point.  Now, in fairness, if you're looking for something that's going to give you a neat, delicate line on the upper lash line with a perfect flick, then this is not for you :)

Below is a photo of the green one in action.  I have Mac's Patina on my eyelids and just under the lower lashes.  Then I have the Mystic Green liner on the waterline and applied directly to the lower lash line.  It's a great way of adding some colour to a look and still being able to wear it to work.

Below is a photo showing it properly on the waterline, love it!

The next two photos were taken when I first got the eyeliners, I had to mess around with them :)  On the left is Midnight Blue on top and bottom lashlines and waterline.  I forgot to use the Icy Blue liner!  On the right is Dark Brown on the upper lash line and Mystic Green on the waterline.

The days where I wore Dark Brown to work, I applied it to my upper lashline and it did last all day, so it got full points from me.  I would most heartily recommend these liners to one and all.  I swatched them on my hand about an hour ago so I could take photos and even now when I give them a proper rub with my finger, they're not budging.  They come off easily with makeup wipes which makes me happy.  The newer colours are €2.99 but these ones were €1.50.  Even at €2.99, they're great quality and I think I'm going to have to get more, for blog review purposes of course :)

MeMeMe Correct & Perfect Concealer Kit review

The other night I went to see The King's Speech in the cinema, in Santry, which has a Superdrug, so it would be wrong *not* to check and see what deals they had, correct??

Imagine my happiness when I came across this little beauty.  I would like to introduce you to the MeMeMe Correct & Perfect Concealer Kit.  It was on sale at a strangely priced €8.24.

It immediately made me think of the Laura Mercier Undercover Pot that I have wanted to try for ages but never got around to buying it.  The MeMeMe kit has just the one shade of concealer, but the rest of the features appear to be the same.

First of all, it has a little mirror in the lid, which makes me very happy!  That feature alone makes it more convienient when I'm on the go.

Underneath the concealer is a little pot containing the finely milled setting powder.

With flash
No flash

I got mine in the shade Nude.  They had 3 shades and this was the one that had more peach in it for the undereye circles that plague me every day!

No flash
In daylight

I swatched the concealer and powder in daylight to attempt to show you the colour payoff.  The concealer is thick and creamy.  When I used it the first time, I used a concealer brush but I wasn't happy with the result, so I used my ring finger and that's how I applied it in the photos below.  Next time I try it, I'll use a blending brush like the Pixiwoo girls and see how I get on.

Left: Powder   -   Right: Concealer
Now on to the proper swatches, under the eyes themselves.  As I've mentioned before, the weekend is the only time I see daylight, so off I went to sit in front of my bedroom window applying concealer :)

The first photo is me with no concealer at all.  If you look closely at the eye on the right, I've a little scar from where I had a cyst removed a couple of years ago.  It's not a big scar at all and I don't worry too much about trying to hide it.

The second photo is with concealer and powder under the eye on the right.  The redness from the scar is gone.

The final photo is with concealer under both eyes.

I'm pretty happy with the outcome. I always have the fear that when it comes to concealer, I'll end up looking like poor Eva Longoria!  This product is great and I'll definitely be adding it to my makeup bag for work and for going out.  I've never had a concealer that had a setting powder before.  I've had my eye on Benefit's Erase Paste and Powderflage, but they're two products and pretty expensive.  The month of January has been a toughie money-wise, so if you're on a budget like myself, have a look at this the next time you're in Boots or Superdrug :)

MAC Cham Pale Lip Gelee Dupes?

Poodles, I was having a root through my stash this evening and came across these lip glosses that I bought last year in Penneys/Primark.  I've used them a bit over the months but when I saw them this evening, it made me think that they might be dupes for the lip gelees that MAC have out with the Cham Pale collection?  I had a look online for swatches and on Temptalia they have some good photos.

Once again, my lighting has let me down.  I think the gloss on the right might be a decent dupe for Bubble Lounge.  The one on the right is close in colour to Luxture in the tube, but upon swatching, it's different.  Take a looksee:

These were only a couple of euro in Penneys/Primark and are lovely and shimmery without looking too mad!  Dupability aside, they're grand for the price and I don't feel too bad having forgotten about them since they were so cheap.

Does anyone know of any good dupes of expensive products?  I'd love to have a great selection of them and sure every girl loves a bargain!

NOTD: Gosh Holographic

This nail polish has been on my list of things to get for ages!  I read about it on a couple of blogs and knew I had to have it.  So when my thoughtful sister was in AWear last week and saw that some of the Gosh makeup items were half price, she picked up a couple for me, three to be exact :)  I couldn't wait to show her what it was like, so while waiting for the train home, I applied it on my thumb over a nail polish I'd had on for a couple of days.  Mistake.  It refused to apply properly and went all streaky, so I applied it to two fingers and spent the rest of the journey admiring my nails and telling my sister to "lookit, isn't it gowjus"!

When I applied it first, it looks like a regular silver glitter polish, but it's when it dries that you see the holographic nature of it.  This is it in all it's glory, well, some of it's glory.  This was taken tonight in my room with no flash on the camera.  It's dark when I come home, so I don't see daylight until the weekends, so hopefully I'll take a photo of the nail varnish over the weekend in proper daylight so you can see it properly.

This is a gorgeous nail polish that will have people asking where you got it :)  Get it while you can, I heard it's being discontinued which is sad, so keep an eye out for them!

3 eyeshadows - 2 looks

This is just a quick post tonight after playing around with makeup a wee bit.  I've been lacking in inspiration lately mainly because I need storage badly.  At the moment all of my makeup is thrown in a couple of boxes and I can't find anything.  Hopefully a trip to Ikea and some storage ideas will help me get on my merry way.

These are the 3 eyeshadows that inspired me tonight.  They're all from the MUA line from Superdrug and cost €1.20. Bargain!

I used Shade 19, a matte chocolate brown, Shade 11, a bronzey gold shimmery eyeshadow and Shade 8, the bright teal colour.  I used them on both eyes but in different ways.

On the left I used the teal shade all over the eyelid, the matte brown shadow in the crease and the shimmery bronze colour under the eye.  On the right I applied the bronze eyeshadow all over the lid, the matte shadow in the crease and the teal under the eye.  I used a brown eyeliner on the waterline and a slick of mascara on top and bottom lashes on both eyes.

These looks would be great for the summer.  I do the look on the left a lot with brown on the lid and a colour under the eye.  What do you guys think of this?  Any suggestions on other eyeshadows I could do this with?  It's recessionary times so we have to make the most of what we have girlies!!

Yay I won stuff!

Lads, I never win anything, ever.  Then in the space of a couple of weeks I won a Sephora by OPI nail varnish set from beaut.ie; I had gotten a set from my family for my birthday, you can see it here, and on stylesiren.ie, I won a few things that I'll show you below.  I was delighted with all of my winnings :)  The nail varnish set went to my sister since we both love OPI and since we live together, we have double the stash :)

My nails are in absolute bits at the moment and I'm working on them.  For the past few months they've been flaking, peeling and really soft, so I'm not inclined to put nail polish on them until they're a bit better.  But here's the Sephora by OPI set in all it's glory.  Isn't she beautiful??

I can't wait to be able to use these babies, well maybe not the brown one in the final photo, second from the right, not a very pleasant colour :)

Stylesiren ran a 12 days of Christmas competition and this is what I won.

First up is a NeoStrata gift set which includes the Bionic Face Cream, 2 facial cleanser samples and 2 free treatment peels.  I'm not going out this weekend so might have a go of it on Friday.  I've never had a facial in my life so will have nothing to compare it to but I'm looking forward to trying it out.  I'll review it when I do.

I think the name of the next product will give the Irish readers a little giggle, it's called uspa supernatural Kashmir moisturising shampoo.  I love the bottle and love trying new shampoos.  I can't wait to have a go and review it.  I'd never heard of the uspa brand but am ready and willing to give it a shot.

Finally, I won a print by the visual artist Nicole Tilley called "Shot through with starlight".  It's gorgeous and I've spent ages turning it this way and that to see if I can see any other faces in it :)  Look at me, I'm an art collector!

My mam also won a prize on Stylesiren.ie, she won an Aussie haircair set and she absolutely loves it.  She's got short, thick, coarse hair and has been using the set since she got it.  Her hairdresser even commented on how great her hair felt when she was in with them recently.

The family luck continued on Stylesiren, where my sister won a Yes To Carrots Shower Essentials Kit.  As I said, we live together, so what's hers is mine so we cant wait to use it hehe It contains a daily pampering shampoo, conditioner and shower gel and the containers are huge!  500mls for each of them so I know what's gonna be taking up lotsa space in the shower :)

So those were our winnings :)  Thanks to beaut.ie and stylesiren.ie for the fantastic gifts :)

I'll be holding a blog giveaway as soon as I hit 75 followers, I'm at 73 now, so only 2 more to go :)  I *may* have a Gosh Rainbow nail varnish included in the prizes, so get a-followin and I'll post the giveaway :)

The List - updated

Back in September I posted about the products that I want to try/buy/swatch and I explained how I keep the list in my phone so as I think of things, I add it to said list :)  I'm all about trying different products and just because they're on The List doesn't mean I'm going to buy them.  It's just a reminder written down of all the products that I've read about on other blogs, on Twitter etc  When you're having a wander in Superdrug and Boots it's easy to forget what you wanted to look at :)

So this is my list from September 2010:

  • Mac lipsticks in Jazzed and Call my Bluff
  • Illamasqua Light Liquid Foundation
  • Maybelline Colour Sensational Warm Me Up Lipstick #235
  • Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer
  • Urban Decay Rush Lipstick
  • Mac Lipsticks in Freckletone and Hue
  • Maybelline Caramel Kiss Lipstick
  • Lancome Voile De Rose Lipstick (cannot find anywhere)
  • Mac Cream Colour Base in Hush
  • Lush Marilyn Hair Treatment
  • Loreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara

And would you believe it that the only thing I bought was Lush's Marilyn hehe  Love it and would highly recommend it as a hair treatment, actually, I might use it this evening myself!

So this is The List as it stands today:

Essence gel liners (I've searched high and low for these,so if anyone knows where you can get them in Dublin, please lemmie know!)
OPI Nail Envy (my nails are in bits, hence lack of nail varnish posts)
Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner in Sapphire Shimmer (may have found a dupe for this, will post soon)
Origins Vitazing Moisturiser
Gosh Holographic Nail Varnish (again, anyone in the Dublin area, have you seen this?!)
Revlon Colourstay foundation
Sigma Make me up makeup brushes - so cute!
Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser
Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask (will be an ebay item since can't be gotten here)

I think that's it for now, I had had some Lush hair products on The List before Christmas and picked them up in the sales, so will review them soon.  I had the Lush Lip Scrub on The List too and a Clinique foundation, both of which I picked up too.  I think the item that I really want to try the most is Origins Vitazing moisturiser, I think this would make me happy :)

Is there anything else I should add to The List or do you have your own List?  I love reading what people want to try or would recommend :)

Plans for the upcoming week

Hey all, hope you had a good first week back at work :)  Last week was one of the longest and most stressful weeks ever so here's hoping that this week is nicer.  Because of the drama of my week, I was exhausted every day after work and didn't get as much done as I'd wanted to.  So, these are my plans for the week and we'll see how far I get :)

1. Tomorrow I'm going to the post office to collect what I think is the prize I won on the Style Siren website before Christmas.  I'm excited because it's a print, a moisturiser and samples of a peel, I think.  So looking forward to that.

2. On Tuesday I'm meeting my friend Ruth for coffee (we always say coffee and it ends up being hot chocolate:)).  Looking forward to the chats!

3. About 6 or 7 of us girls at work have started our own weight loss club.  We weighed in on Friday gone and didn't tell each other the weight or anything.  The plan is we are all going to weigh in every Friday and just tell each other the results, good or bad.  I did this last year with my friend Pili and we did great but we have fallen off the wagon big time, so have roped in the majority of the girls at work!  It's great motivation and we were swapping tips on Friday so hopefully we'll all be skinny minnys soon :)  I've been following Lee's weight loss journey on her website mwah.ie and have been so inspired by her.  I'm thinking about doing a weight loss post once a week to keep me accountable, so we'll see how that goes.

4. My bedroom looks like an absolute bomb site, so I'm going to go through it and do a big clear out once and for all.  I've no storage so it's hard, but I'm going to see what I can do.

5. I picked up a few products today and on Friday that I'm excited to review.  I've tried a couple of them and feel that they are something people should know about :)

Anyway, those are my plans for the week, does anyone have anything exciting happening this week?

Comparison: Stila vs Essence eyeliner

As you all know I'm all about trying different products and comparing the inexpensive and expensive ones.  Today it's all about the black eyeliner pencil.

I love me some black eyeliner, especially for going out at night.  With this though, the darker the better.  You want something that's going to stay put and is easy to carry in your bag if you're heading out and easy to apply.

In December I was in the local pharmacy looking for the Essence gel eyeliner pots, (which I still cannot find) and came across their Carbon Black Gloss Eye Pencil.  It was either €1.29 or €1.99, not sure, (note to self, New Year resolution, keep a list of the price of things!) but cheap enough anyway.  I swatched it in the pharmacy and was immediately impressed with the pigmentaion.  Had to be tried.

If you've read some of my other posts, you'll know that I am in love with Stila's Kajal in Onyx.  I got it ages ago in Sephora and haven't found anything that can top it in terms of staying power, pigmentation, you name it.

Top is Stila Kajal in Onyx, bottom is Essence Carbon Black Gloss Eye Pencil.

On the left is Stila Kajal and on the right is Essence's Carbon Black.  Hopefully from the swatches you can see that the Stila one is much thicker and creamier than the Essence liner.  Essence's is a thinner formula and you can really see that it is glossier than Stila.  The pigmentation on my hand for both are pretty good, so the next step was to try it on my eyes.

Please excuse the dopey look above!  I was trying to show the liners on the upper lash lines.  On the left is Stila and on the right is Essence.  As you can see, Stila is much more pigmented than Essence and to be honest, the Essence liner doesn't look too glossy here.

Above you can see the difference in the two liners on the waterline.  This photo was taken a couple of minutes after applying each of the liners and you can see that the Stila one on the left is so much more pigmented than the Essence on the right.  I was disappointed because you know how I love finding cheap dupes for products I love!!

This time, Stila wins hands down.  I'll keep the Essence one even to use as a base for smokey eyes (I've a few of them coming up soon).

Does anyone know of any other black pencil eyeliners that could compare to Stila's Kajal?  If so, leave a comment below and I'll be your best friend :)

Lush Ocean Salt Review

I'm a big fan of exfoliators.  I love trying different ones in the hope of finding something as good as the St Ives one that was out years ago.  I think they've changed the formulation over the past few years and it's like there's less of the exfoliator bits in it these days.  The old stuff was great and left my skin so soft.

Enter Lush Ocean Salt Review.  I got this for Christmas after reading some good things about it.

Lush says "We take the lime and the coconut (and grapefruit and sea salt) and mix them up together in our stimulating, fruity, vodka-based face scrub.  For a complexion that glows."

It was €16.85 (ouch, but hey, it's Christmas!) for 250g of product, but I think it'll last me for ages.  When I opened it first, the top of it had a blue tint to it and I'm not sure what that was, but I took a photo anyway.

I mixed up the product on the first use and the blueness on top blended into the rest of it.  It has a wet consistency, but isn't runny.  You can feel and see the coarse and fine sea salt easily and I love that they feel like the main ingredients, rather than the lotion it's in, if that makes sense.  It smells clean.  Once again, my lack of ability to describe smells lets me down hehe  It says it contains lime, coconut and grapefruit, none of which I can smell.  Maybe the lime at a push.  I'm not a big fan of the grapefruit, as a food or a smell, so I'm happy I can't smell it.

I use this in the shower simply because when I start to apply it, some of the coarse sea salt drops away, leaving plenty on my face, it just makes a mess.  I usually scrub for a couple of minutes and then rinse it off leaving my skin gorgeous and soft.  I don't know if I'd say it has given me "a complexion that glows" yet, but that could also have something to do with all the rubbish I ate and drank over Christmas.  When The Big Diet starts this Friday, we'll see how the complexion goes!

Bit of a warning:  For the few times I've used this, when rinsing it away, I made the mistake of letting the water going into my mouth and warm salty water is highly unpleasant!  It made me think of when my throat is sore and my mam makes me gargle with warm salt and water, ugh!  So, rinse with mouth closed!!

I really like it so far and would recommend it.  I just wish they did slightly smaller sized containers of it.  That being said, I wonder how hard something like this would be to make myself? Hmm

PS Do you like the blue leopard print pjs I have in the background hehe
