Lovely Girlie Healthy Bits - The Beginning

Bit of a different post today ladies.  In my New Year's Resolutions post, I wrote about my number one aim for this year being that I want to lose weight and I have a plan of action folks.

1.  Every Friday morning I'll be weighing myself and I'll post whatever loss or gain for that week either Friday evening or Saturday morning, whenever I get a chance to write the post.  This is a way for me to stay motivated and be held accountable for the week and if anyone wants to do this with me, feel free to leave your results in the comments at the end of every post.  My pal from work, wanted everyone to know that she lost 3lbs this week!  A few of us from work are weighing in every Friday morning as a way to keep each other going.

2.  I lost the run of myself last year and bought breakfast and lunch at work every day.  This not only cost spondoolies, but I ended up buying dinners basically and then having a second dinner when I got home.  I'm going to bring both breakfast and lunch to work with me this year.  It'll save me money to go in my New York Fund and I'll be able to keep track of what I'm eating.  I spent too much time feeling bloated and blah last year.  Joanne and I were also really lazy when it came to cooking dinners, relying too much on fast food and microwave meals, it's a wonder we didn't get scurvy or gout!  We're back on track cooking healthier meals now.

3.  I'm going to do some form of exercise for an hour, 5 days a week.  I have a cross trainer at home and whenever I use it, I feel so much better about myself.  Last year, blogging took up a lot of my time and I spent ages every night messing about online, so time management will be key for me this year.

4.  This is the scary one folks.  Once a month, I'll be posting a photo of myself in the same workout clothes, so I can (hopefully) see the changes in my body.  When I'm reading other people's weight loss journeys and watching The Biggest Loser, I love seeing before and after photos.  Be gentle with me ladies!  Just think, this time last year I was only posting photos of my eyeballs on the blog, graduating on to my actual full visage, sweet Lord good luck to you all having to look at the whole lot of moi!


Since this is mainly a beauty blog, I'll just be posting once a week about my weight loss journey.  I don't know if many people will be interested in reading about it but it'll be like my own little diary, except it's not private.  I'm going to start watching Operation Transformation for inspiration and motivation, hmm, proper rhyming there and there are lots of us on Twitter who are spurring each other on, so if you're not on Twitter, get yourself an account and join the madness!


Ps. I'm totally not going to tell you my starting weight right now, I'm still getting over the shock of the numbers on the scales themselves!  I will post my losses or gains every week with a running total and I might keep track of my measurements too, for the craic.  As I said in my resolutions post, I have a goal in mind and it'll take me a while to get there, but I will.  I would love to be around the same size as Joanne, just think, we'd be able to double our wardrobe!  I haven't been taking care of myself the past few years and finally feel like I'm ready to.  Who's in with me?!

  7. You're so motivated, I've been exercising and walking since New Year's Day, I love food though so that's my biggest problem!!

    You've given me more motivation, be there right with you.

  9. Sounds like a great plan Karen! Best of luck with it!! If you have an ipod or mp3 player loaded with your fave songs it will help pass the time on your cross trainer or even just watch tv and the time will fly by!!

  10. Ah girls, I'm so happy and touched that so many of ye left a comment, I didn't think that so many of you would be interested in this :) It spurs me on to try even more now, so let's do it, healthy 2012 here we come!

    Simone - fair play to you for starting running. Years ago I did the Couch to 5K thingy and it was brilliant, I want to lose a bit of weight first before I start doing that but I think I will :) Am totes up for Twitter encouragement :)

    mags - I hear ya, and you never know, by the end of the year we won't be wondering if boohoo.com does bags and accessories ;P

  14. Good luck karen, im following operation transformation it keeps me motivated, I've been doing it for a week (not religiously) and I've lost 4 pounds! Lost weight a year ago but never finished the job so to speak but thats my aim now!

  15. OK, there is chocolate hog cake in the oven right now so this week is a wash, I'm with you come Monday. Though I have been sick as a parrot for days so perhaps I've already started?

I can't believe no-one's mentioned 'MyFitnessPal' - it's an online calorie tracker - you put register with your current stats and choose your goal loss per week, it gives you the calories to eat. You enter all your food n drink and exercise. And there's a social aspect with forums and blogs and 'friends' if you like. There's an app if you've got a smartphone.

    Hubby and I have lost about 7kg (14 pounds) each over the last few months using it.

    I've totally stalled since Christmas with lots of social events and a broken toe! But I'll get back on the wagon as soon as I can. My goal is to lose 10 kg (20 pounds).

    Anyhoo, good luck and remember each day is a new day. Don't beat yourself up if you slip up, just keep going!
