Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation

A couple of weeks ago, I went to the blogger's event for the launch of the long awaited and much anticipated foundation from Benefit, named Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow but for the rest of this post, it'll be called "the Benefit foundation".  I am old and can't remember the full name...

Anyway, Benefit make up artist, Lisa Potter-Dixon was on hand to give us all the information on the foundation and did a demonstration on their new team member, Gemma.  Lisa explained how important it is to prepare the skin properly before applying the foundation, using a moisturiser and primer.  She explained that it's better to match your foundation to your chin as it's usually the reddest part of your face, so if your foundation covers that, you should be good to go.  Please all take a moment to look at Gemma's skin in the photos below... Flawless... There was much jealousy in the room that night!

The Benefit foundation comes in 9 shades and is described as a brightening foundation that's oil-free, buildable and provides light to medium coverage with the all important SPF 25.  I love the packaging, especially that it comes with a pump so you can dispense that extra little bit if needed.  The foundation itself is quite runny as you can see below but blends quickly and easily leaving a gorgeous glow on the skin.  I was matched to the colour "I'm so money" Honey which is a little bit dark for me at the moment but will be perfect come summer time.  Has that stopped me wearing it?  Not on your nelly, I've just been blending it down my neck like a good child.

Below are the all important face swatches.  Left is bare face and on the right is the *deep breath* Benefit Hellow Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation.  You can instantly see how much of a glow it gives my face and you can see that I'm making the exact same facial expression (that's the look into the distance and take a photo of the side of your face in front of a window hoping nobody will see you and have a hint of a smile also and then try to recreate that exact shot with the product on and hope it doesn't get sunnier/darker while taking the second shot).  You can see that it gives my cheeks a natural sheen and lifts them up a bit but not in the Madonna pillow face way.  The photo below shows what one layer is like and that's what I've been sticking with since trying it.  I like how my skin still shows through and looks natural.

Now, I have an oily t-zone and normal cheeks.  If I don't powder the foundation, my skin gets really shiny after a couple of hours, so I'd recommend having some blotting sheets handy if you've the same type of skin as moi.  I don't like applying powder over and over throughout the day, so the blotting sheets are a handy thing to have.  The foundation lasts until after lunch time on me before I feel like I need to fix my visage which is about as long as I usually get when it comes to foundations.  It feels really light on my skin and as I've shown above, it gives a lovely glow to the skin.  For me, it's a day time foundation, I like something a bit more matte for evenings.  I think Benefit need to go a bit lighter on the shade scale too for us Irish girls, we're a pale bunch, so hopefully they'll add to their 9 shades in the future.  It's definitely worth going in and speaking to the girls on the counters to get colour matched and just see how beautiful it makes your skin look!

I couldn't do a post on this gorgeous foundation without speaking to someone special.  Someone who is known far and wide (in the Irish beauty community anyway) for her love of all things Benefit.  Someone who impressed Annie and Maggie Ford Danielson with a picture of her collection at the launch of Cha Cha Tint last year and who could set up her own shop with her Benefit stash!  It's the gorgeous and dedicated, self confessed Benefitaholic Aoife!  Just look at this...

I was dying to hear what Aoife thought of the foundation after she sent her boyfriend in to get it for her, ah, true love is enabling a Benefitaholic!  Over to Aoife!

"So....Anyone who knows me knows that I am a Benefitaholic. I am completely in love with They're Real, Maybe Baby perfume, their tints, highlighters and blushers.

I am a loyal kinda gal! Benefit ticks most boxes for me but there is another love in my life. My comfort blanket aka Estée Lauder Double Wear. I don't wear it on a daily basis but it is my go to foundation for a night out or if I need my makeup to look flawless. I don’t need to wear much makeup in work so I have been using Double Wear light and BB creams during the day.

Naturally, when Benefit launched Hello Flawless, I just had to try it. I needed to get my latest fix. How would it compare to my beloved Double Wear?

I have Normal/Dry skin so I use a rich moisturiser under my Double Wear. This prevents it feeling tight or dry. I usually don't need concealer or powder with it. This is my base & my rock. It lives happily with my Benefit family.

Hello Flawless came into my life last week. It is hard to compare these two foundations. If you love the heavier coverage of Double wear, you will feel a little exposed with HF. I was looking for something lighter for daytime so this was perfect.

The texture is very liquidy and light. It bubbles slightly when dispensed. I use a lighter moisturiser with HF as it is not drying. I did need to use Erase Paste to cover my blemishes and dark circles. I found it looked really well when used over the POREfessional and applied with my flat top kabuki brush. It faded a bit during the day but it didn't go clumpy or patchy. It feels lovely and light on my skin. I do love the dewy bright look and is perfect for work. It will also be my go to foundation for holidays this year - fresh faced and SPF.

Perfect right? Nearly....but not quite. I'll take off my Benetinted glasses now. The colour range is very limited. My darling Benefit, 9 shades is not great, especially for us Irish girlies. I have the palest shade and (I hope) I can just about get away with the colour without looking tangoed. If it came in one shade lighter, that would actually be flawless.

Overall, I see my Double Wear and Hello Flawless living happily side by side in my makeup collection. Double Wear will always be my foundation for nights out. Just pleeeeease bring out a few milk bottle shades for us!"

Thanks a million Aoife for giving us your Benethoughts!  (We could come up with a whole new Benefit language at this point, or should I say Benelanguage, Ok, I'll stop now!)

Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow is €35 and on counters now.  Are you going to give it a go?

  1. Great review from you two ladies, I agree they need an even paler shade as the palest one doesn't quite suit me! Looks lovely on you in the pics though!!

  8. This sounds great but similar to Aoife, I would prefer some lighter shades as I'm very pale!! I pretty much always get the palest shade in every brand of foundation so I would definitely have to swatch this first. Great review!
