I was sent this purple mascara to try and gave a little squeak when I realised it was the purple one! There are also two other shades that go along with Violet Envoûtant; Noir Waterproof and Noir Intense. So purple mascara eh? When I think of coloured mascara, I think back to the days of Dallas and Dynasty and big shoulder pads to compliment/distract from the blue mascara. Good times. Violet Envoûtant, however, is subtly gorgeous and it's only when the light hits my lashes at a certain angle that you can see the hint of violet. Totally work friendly.
The wand itself is a goodie. Wide at the base and narrow at the tip making it a cinch to reach the outermost and innermost lashes and keeping the mascara on your lashes, not on your lids. It's densely packed nylon bristles allow you to comb through your lashes easily, allowing lift and separation. Just wait until you see the eyeball shots. I did a little squidge of the formula itself on the paper below to show you how subtle the colour is.
The formulation of the mascara itself is on the dry side and this is what allows you to build the coats easily without clumping. Sometimes with a wetter formula, the lashes tend to clump together and by the time they dry and you're trying to apply the second coat, it just gets difficult.
Now, onto the eyeball shots. One of my aims in life is to get lashes like the models on the ads. I know most of them are enhanced digitally and have fake lashes glued on, but I want to get that "even lash line" they're always talking about when trying to justify why they've gone and done it. I see the models looking up and their lashes look so full and even.
The brush coats every lash evenly and feathers them out beautifully. No word of a lie, when I'm wearing this mascara, I feel the need to admire my lashes every time I look in the mirror. I also have to bite my tongue when I see my pals at work and try not to say "look at my lashes, bet you can't tell it's purple, but just look at them, don't they look like the ones from the ads"? No, they would think I'm weird, so I quietly and smugly enjoy looking at them myself.
You want full frontal eyeball shots? You got it. Below is naked lashes, then one coat and two coats of Violet Envoûtant. It gives volume, length and curl and looks exactly the same by the time I'm coming home from work.
As you can see, there's no clumping or spider lashes, just whispy, pretty lashes.
The three mascaras are available on Lancôme counters now and retail at €27.95. Violet Envoûtant is limited edition, so go get one soon if you want to have purple, feathery, whispy, doll like lashes this summer!
