Two of my favourite lip balms - from Avene and Nuxe

I know, the fact that I'm saying these two are my favourite ones is huge.   Huge I tell you!   I carry an obscene amount of lip products in my bag but have whittled them down since getting stuck into these babies. And because I love them both equally and can't pick my ultimate favourite, I'll list them in alphabetical order because it's fair.

Avene Cold Cream Lip Cream. When I think Cold Cream, I think of Kylie Minogue years ago claiming her gorgeous skin was due to Ponds cold cream. Not all the botox and fillers. No. But I'd never heard of cold cream in actual lip balm and as soon as I read about it on beaut.ie, I was intrigued and picked it up in my local chemist for the very random price of €10.17.  It's on the expensive side for a lip balm but for something that had been heralded as a holy grail product, I handed over my cashola with ease.  No putting any on the back of my hand before paying, no, I had The Trust that it would be perfect.

As soon as I got to the car after purchasing, I had to squeeze some out of the tube and this clear liquid oozed out. Ok I thought, doesn't look like cold cream but sure I'll give it a lash. As the night went on and I reapplied it, I noticed that some white stuff was coming out alongside the clear stuff and I got a little bit worried. The next morning I woke up and had another lash and thankfully the product had hardened up and looked like proper lip balm again. Phew. Obviously it had separated in the heat, so just something to be aware of. It's not supposed to be clear goo. Also, be aware that when it gets cold, you may burst a vessel trying to get it out of the tube, so warm it up in your hands a bit and you'll be good to go.

When my lips are in bits, using this clears them up in no time thanks to the Avene Spring Water and emollients that help repair and soothe them.  Happy days.

Nuxe Reve de Miel.   Where Avene leaves my lips glossy, Nuxe Reve de Miel leaves my lips matte.  But moisturised.   It was a very strange sensation at first and almost feels a bit gritty, but once you smooth it over your lips, it melts into them leaving a thick feeling layer of product.  I love the idea that my lips are moisturised but not glossy and a product like this is perfect for wearing under a matte lip product.

With Honey and Shea Butter to nourish and repair and thanks to the the light grapefruit fragrance, this little jar of goodness is right up my street. I leave this on my desk at work as it's glass and I'm trying (a little unsuccessfully) to cut down on the products I lug around.   I love that it's different to any other balm I have and I'm going to to my best to make my way through the pot, although it's going to be a bit difficult seeing as you only need a little bit each time.

I got mine at Cloud 10 Beauty here for €12.50.  You can pick up the Avene Cold Cream Lip Cream from chemists nationwide.

Go on, what's your favourite lip balm/treatment?

  1. Great choices Karen! I love both of these for winter I am currently using 1 of my EOS balms! I also picked up the stick version of the nuxe for a lighter way to lug it around! :-)
