On the left is the old one and on the right is the new one.
It's not the same..... When I bought it I knew the packaging was different but just assumed they'd changed it, not the actual product itself, but sure I went about my business and used it. Take a looksee at the different ingredients. I've learned to actually look at the bottles now rather than just assume it's just repackaged.
I've tried the new one five times now and each time, I've woken up the following day with crusty red eyes. I know, it's gross, but full disclosure ladies. The first time, I put it down to having sore eyeballs from saying goodbye to one of my best pals who moved home. The second time, I put it down to still being a bit sad. The third time, I was feeling grand and yet the eyeballs were red. The last time I used it was the night before last and I even used less just to rule out if I was using too much. When using any make up remover on my eyes, I shake the bottle and holding the cotton pad against the opening, tilt the bottle three times, making a little triangle of it. I cut it down to two tilts, just to be sure to be sure.
I dunno. I don't think my eyeballs aren't sensitive because I had no problem with my Toleriane eye make up remover from La Roche Posay and have gone back to using it without any problem whatsoever. I must just be allergic to something in this Boots formulation.
Then...... I cracked it.... While taking photos of the ingredients, I came across something very important. How did I miss this? I read it, squinted and actually rubbed my sore eyes to make sure I wasn't seeing things.
Ah. Silly me. What was I thinking using eye make up remover on my actual eyes..... A rookie mistake.
Now, I know this will work for lots of you out there, but this is just a little post to say it's not the same product with new packaging. So mind yizzer eyeballs girls. Going to work and having to explain to everyone that a) you weren't crying, b) you don't have some eye disease, c) you are not a rabbit from Watership Down. You just tried to be a good girl and take your eye make up off properly the night before.
Jeepers, thats pretty rubbish innit? using lancomes eye makeup remover at the mo as i find emma hardies cleanser doesnt really remove eye makeup very well. would you recommend the lrp one karen?
ReplyDeleteI'd deffo recommend the one from La Roche Posay Laura, it's absolutely brilliant
DeleteThey did this with the balm cleanser as well, used more of the cheaper ingredients and are charging more for it. I hate it. HATE HATE HATE it when they do this. I am using a RoC micellar water to do eyemake-up removal and its working a treat.
ReplyDeleteSooooo annoyingggggggg innit? I think this one cost in and around the same, just over €4, had to go back to my trusty La Roche Posay...
DeleteAh for feck sake, an eye make up remover that you can't use on eyes? That's the stooopidest thing I've seen this week (so far).
ReplyDeleteWTH, Boots?
I know! I was like, hmm, I can't be seeing that right!
DeleteAhh you have to avoid contact with eyes - its a mary poppins remover you are to wave it in front of your eyes and like magic poof the eye makeup is gone
ReplyDeleteAh boots you are silly rabbits sometimes
Love it! I know, sure come on, I'm not going to be pouring it into my eyeballs, but you have to get your mascara off an all in anyways!
DeleteOh my word this is crazy. I find it really difficult to get a good eye makeup remover that actually removes make up (crazy, huh?) without irritating my eyes. I can only imagine how frustrating this is for you!!

Have you tried the one from La Roche Posay yet Sara? So good and not a hint of pink eye!
DeleteI hate when they change ingredients on a product you love:( I can't recall which ones it was but I'm near certain I've seen the warning 'avoid contact with eyes' on other eye make-up removers. wth?
ReplyDeleteI never really look at the backs of bottles of things like that for ingredients or warnings, I totally will from now on!
Delete"Avoid contact with eyes"... I've seen it all, OMG. Hahahahah
ReplyDeleteoh god i have never tried either but i was lookig at it.. i had the same problem with the No 7 one they changed packaging recently now it doesnt hurt my eyes or anything but it does not work as good i also checked the ingredients and they were different but avoid contact with eyes makes no sense!! the Johnsons one is very good prob my fave one gentle on your eyes too and its purse friendly its half price in superdrug at the mo so its only like around 2 euro i think xx
ReplyDeleteI hate when the formula is changed on products you love x
ReplyDeleteHas anyone contacted Boots regarding the change to the eyemakeup remover?? I hate the new version, it stings my eyes and I know a few other people who dislike it. The original was perfect and removed all traces of eye makeup. Why oh why did they have to go and change it?? I saw on the bottle it says avoid contact with the eyes.. what's that all about??!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I didn't know they'd changed it.. I'm finding this moat distressing. This was one of my favorite products, it was awesome. Blub :'-(
ReplyDeleteI thought it was just me and my sensitive skin. I have been an regular user of the Boots Botanic range for my face and body for years, I have sensitive skin and was glad to have found something that was effective and suited my skin. When I saw the new packaging I assumed that all would be well but my skin has never been so sore, angry and inflamed and I have had to stop using it.
ReplyDeleteAnyone got any ideas about a skin friendly replacement?
I've just bought the new formulation for the first time, and have exactly the same problems - sore blurry eyes for many hours after use. Down the drain it goes. Own goal, Boots!
