Max Factor Eye Brightening Tonal Black Volumising Mascara - photos, swatches, before and after

I saw the ads for the Max Factor Eye Brightening Tonal Black Volumising mascaras and I was immediately intrigued.  A mascara that brightens your eye colour?  I stroked my imaginary beard while furrowing my brow but then stopped furrowing my brow because that causes wrinkles.  A couple of weeks later they arrived at Casa Girlie Bits and I got to test them out first hand.

There are three shades that work with your eye colour to enhance them and make your eyes look brighter.  We've Black Sapphire for blue eyes, Black Pearl for brown eyes and Black Ruby for green eyes.  The formula is full of light reflective metallic particles that catch the light and so out came the macro settings on the camera to show you up close and personal.  Oh and I totally forgot to take a photo of the wand.  It's thin and plastic and tapers towards the tip.  I'll update the post with a photo of the wand this weekend.  But on to the colours!

I took these photos in indirect sunlight so you could see the amount of shimmer packed in to the formula.  Since I have green peepers, I've been using Black Ruby.  The formula is wet but coats my lashes evenly and without much effort.  It doesn't clump, adds a decent amount of length and volume and lifts my lashes, giving me long, wispy lashes.  Take a look at the photo below.  You can really see the light picking up the metallic particles.

For me, this is a fantastic every day mascara.  I've had it on almost all week and it gives a more natural look than a regular black mascara.  It doesn't make my eyes look any greener but then again, I didn't expect it to to be honest.  But it does give me fluttery lashes and stays on for the whole day.  For night time wear, I need something with a lot of volume, but this is perfect for work.
