Ivoire de Balmain review

Up until last month, I'd no idea that fashion house Balmain had their own range of scents.  Thankfully, at an event last month, my eyes and nose were opened to two of them and it was love at first sniff. The original Ivoire was launched way back in 1979 and it's back with new packaging, bringing it up to date and ready to be sniffed by a whole new generation.

With top notes of mandarine essence, orange essence and violet leaves, they wake you up and give you a little pep in your step.  First thing in the morning, I need all the pep I can get, so as soon as I get into work, this is sprayed on me and I'm ready to knuckle down.  As the initial waft of invigoration disappears, the heart of the scent comes into effect; galbanum, ylang-ylang essence, jasmine, rose pepper and vanilla.  This coincides with my reality check that no, I'm not going to be working at that fervent pace from when I first spritzed Ivoire on me.  It's more of a happy content feeling that I have the whole day ahead of me to be productive.  The base notes are patchouli essence, vetyver essence and cedarwood and that adds warmth and depth to the fragrance that hangs around long after the top notes are gone.  Then it's time to spray some more and the cycle starts again!

To me, this is a day time perfume, full of floral greens.  It's bright, invigorating and gives me a bit of badly needed energy.  It puts me in good form as soon as I spray it on and it smells even better and makes me even happier when it's sunny out.  It makes these bright yet colder days so much more bearable.  The bottle is classic and elegant and totally mammy friendly.

I was given this at a PR event last month and let the record show, Balmain have another fragrance, Ambre Gris, that will be mine this year!

It's reasonably priced at €39/30ml, €55/50ml and €80/100ml.  I'm telling you, this is a gorgeous gift to give a lucky lady in your life (or yourself) this Christmas and it's a scent that will work year round.  You can find it in Debenhams, on Debenhams.ie and on HouseOfFraser.co.uk
