New York purchases - drug store baby!

All things considered, I was quite restrained in my many visits to all the different drug stores in New York.  There was a Duane Reade right around the corner from our hotel and it had been done up since the last time we were there, so I of course, nearly hyperventilated at just how gorgeous it was, as drug stores go!  I was very unimpressed by the Walgreens in Times Square but you can't win 'em all.

So yes, we were talking about restraint.  I did my best to try to only buy products that we can't get here and for two of the brands, I bought shades that I've wanted but aren't being released here.  So here's the little overview shot of said products.  Let the record show I was so giddy taking all my photos but then the giddiness stopped when I realised I didn't have the memory card in the camera.  I also did this for a day and a half in New York.  I'm a gobshite.  But on to the products!

I decided (after finishing buying all my make up, both in drug stores and in Sephora) that this was the year of The Blush.  And in the grand scheme of things, I don't have a huge amount of blushes but this one, ooooh this one spoke to me like only a little Arran jumper-esque blush can.  From Physicians Formula, the packaging called to me, as did the product itself.  But the cuteness of the powder might be it's own downfall as in I might be reluctant to mess up the design.  But I digress, just look how cute it is, baby tassel and all.

Again, with these two mascaras from Physicians Formula, the packaging suckered me in.  Why are there not more asparagus shaped mascaras in the world?  And the green shiny one that looks like a leaf, well, firstly, I can see it a mile away even in the depths of my make up bag and holy moly it has the biggest wand I've ever seen.  Yes, that's what she said.  I'll review them both over the coming weeks so stay tuned.

Back in March, Maybelline released the Color Tattoos and the beauty blogging world nearly wet itself with excitement.  Or was that just me?  I was dying to get my paws on Pomegranate Punk, pictured on the right so I snapped that up and then the excitement got too much for me and I picked up that wild orange shade called Fierce & Tangy.  I'm picturing that it'll look gorgeous in the summer with a bit of a tan and mad lashes, maybe with my asparagus mascara?

Also following the old We Have This In Ireland But Not These Shades, check out these two shadows from the L'Oreal Infallible range. Smoldering Plum is on the left and Glistening Garnet on the right.  I first clapped eyes on Smoldering Plum on Temptalia.com during the summer and no matter how many times I visited Boots, the shade never materialised, so I took matters into my own hands.

I was raging with myself for not buying any Milania products last time I was in New York and now I'm raging that I only bought these two eye products.  But it's a start and I'm looking forward to trying them out.  The single shadow on the left is a metallic baked eyeshadow called I Heart You and it immediately leapt out to me among all the other shades.  The palette on the right is called Designer Browns and I have high hopes for this.  I'm chomping at the bit to get stuck into it and now that I've photographed it, I can!  There are 11 palettes altogether and rather than pick crazy colours, I picked something I'd use, so we'll see how I get on.

On to the lips.  I picked up two of the Maybelline Baby Lips and these smell gorgeous.  I wanted ones with a bit of colour to them, rather than having more lip balms.  Grape Vine is on the left and Cherry Me is on the right.  Have you tried these yet?

Continuing on with the lips, I went a bit mad with Wet 'n Wild but these were under $3 each, so no harm in picking up a few *ahem*  The lippie at the bottom is a Mega Last Lip Colour and is matte which scares me a little but hopefully it won't give me concealer looking lips.  The middle two in the thick black tubes are Mega Shield Lip Colours and are really moisturising, pigmented with a glossy finish.  The two at the back of the photo look kind of like Clinique's Almost Lipsticks but are called Lip Lacquers and I managed to mush them on the sides somehow in my travels.  I got a really bright one and a more neutral one so it remains to be seen which one will be favoured!  My money's on the nudie one but I might surprise myself!

Aren't they pretty?  So those were my drug store purchases and I love them all even though I haven't tried them yet.  Let's see if any make it into my monthly favourites pile!

What are your drug store must haves, either when you're in the States or here in Ireland where they're called chemists?
