My resolutions for 2013!

I'm a firm believer that you can resolve to do anything at any time throughout the year but there's something about starting a new year with fresh hopes and aspirations that gets me all inspired!

I want to be more organised.  I was pretty organised last year, even when I started posting more frequently.  But as the number of launches and events increased, I'd less time in the evenings to get organised and weekends were spent taking photos, catching up on chores, planning blog posts etc.  So this year I'll be going to less events and launches in an attempt to have more of a blog/life balance!

I want to comment more on blogs.  I'm so bad at this but I want to pull the finger out and start leaving comments on all the blogs I read.  I know with some blogs that have Discus as their comment form, my ancient computer at work won't let me comment and by the time I get home, I don't think to go back and comment.  So I'll be making a renewed effort to comment this year and reply to comments left on my blog.

Continue to value my worth.  Last year I was proud of myself for turning down the option to regularly write for an online magazine for free as they'd no budget which is fair enough.  As the vah vah wise Kirstie McDermott says, it's not work if they're not paying you.  I don't mind doing guest posts, but it was in 2012 where I finally realised that it's ok to say no to things.  A couple of times during the year I felt that I was being taken advantage of because I was a blogger with good stats, but I held firm and didn't let people walk all over me and I'm proud of myself for that.  I want to keep that mentality going this year.

Give myself a beauty budget.  I know.  How many times have us beauty junkies gone on spending bans in attempt to stop our product piggery?  And even though I'm sent a lot of things, I still love buying and trying new things, so in an attempt to curb my spending, I'm proposing a €50 monthly beauty budget.  Now, if I don't spend the €50 one month, I'm totally allowing myself to carry the remainder into the next month!  This will make me research impending purchases even more and try to be careful with what I buy.

Non bloggy resolutions!

I want to lose weight this year.  Famous last words but it's a new year and a fresh start, so I'll give it another go.  I think lack of exercise is my main issue so I'm going to be more active this year.  I'm not setting specific goals or list the number of minutes I want to exercise, but I'm just going to be more physically active and go from there.  I don't know if I'll blog about it again, but I'll just see how it goes!  I'm thinking about trying Slimming World but need to research it more before I commit.

The Year Of The House.  I've been living in my house for nearly five years now and at the end of last year, things were finally sorted out financially and I now feel like it's my home.  Joanne will be moving out in a couple of months and I finally want to start redecorating it.  Now, it's going to take me a long time because the house itself is ancient and there's a lot of work that has to go into it, but I took the first step over the weekend and let the transformation commence!  I don't like having people over much because the inside is so old fashioned, so I'm going to make it my mission to sort out the downstairs first and go from there!

Cook one new dish at least every two weeks.  This is pretty self explanatory!  I get into a rut and cook the same thing over and over but I want to broaden my horizons and start trying new things.  I collect recipe books so I shouldn't find it too hard to be inspired!  Joanne gave me Jamie's 15 minute meals for my birthday so I'd say I'll be making my way through that for the next couple of months.

What are your resolutions for 2013, beauty related or otherwise?

It's great that you'll be doing up your house now, so exciting! Have fun doing it and I hope you show us some of the results on here :)

  3. Those are some excellent resolutions. I'm with you on trying to cook something new more often (I also have a house full of cookery books!) and I want to be more positive this year, not get so bogged down with worrying. I should probably set a beauty budget too actually :)
