Neutral lips from Clarins and Smashbox

As much as I'm getting into wearing colour on my lips, my heart lies with the neutrals.  I like to be able to slick on a layer of whatever nudie shade that takes my fancy sans mirror without the fear of looking like The Joker in Batman.  These three products have been in constant rotation since being given them by the brands.  I've a lipstick, a lipgloss and a lip perfector to show you.

I like having that "my lips but better" thing going on and since I like to pack the eye make up on, having natural lips works well for me.

The Instant Light Natural Lip Protector in the shade Petal Shimmer from Clarins is one of the nicest lip products I've tried in ages!  So much so, I picked up another shade in the airport last week and I'll show you that soon.  Petal Shimmer is one of three new shades on all Clarins counters in April and it feels gorgeous on the lips, almost like a lip butter, except it's a gel.  It smells like vanilla and this shade gives an almost milky finish to the lips.  It's hydrating, nourishes, repairs and protects the lips, gives great shine and had to be hidden from the mother when we were in Spain after she tried it one night.  I can't recommend it enough but wait until you see the other shade I bought!  These are €17 and well worth it in my opinion.  Do I need the third shade?  Yes.  Yes I do.

Andreea from ArtDonatella loves her matte lipsticks and I don't know anyone else who can rock them like she can.  I think of her every time I see one and hope she'd be proud of me trying this offering from Smashbox.  Nylon Nude is one of the Be Legendary lipsticks that is actually a cream formulation but I found that if I applied it directly from the bullet back an forth a few times, I looked like a mannequin so I apply one layer and pat the colour into my lips to give a more natural finish.  This warm nude shade was used on me at the Smashbox counter a few weeks ago to create this look and it has just enough warmth in it to not give me corpse face.

I've mentioned the Love Me collection from Smashbox before and Adore Me, the pinky lipgloss is gorgeous for a wash of colour on the lips.  Charm Me (€17.50) is a sheer caramel shade gloss packed with shimmer that gives a grand bit of shine.  It's one of those glosses that isn't too sticky and looks pretty over a lipstick.

Speaking of which, one of my favourite combinations is to put Charm Me gloss over Nylon Nude for a peachy nudey lip that suits me perfectly.

What's your favourite neutral lip product?  Come on, we know I'm going to keep buying and trying so make them good!

  1. Gowjus! That blush is fabliss too -having serious scarf envy here!

  2. All gorgeous! I can't get away from nudes, I love wearing brights too but I can never be bothered with the upkeep so I always wear a nudey pink as I'm lazy! xx
