Bourjois Bronzing Primer review - before and after photos!

Oh yes.......  Say hello to one of my absolute and instant favourite products for this summer.....

The Bourjois Bronzing Primer had my heart before I even saw it in person.  I'd heard rumblings of it being a dupe for the much loved but very expensive Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel.  I've been wanting to try that for ages but was holding off for the Bourjois version to appear, and while not having had a go of Chanel's one, I don't think I even want to anymore.

Ok, so what is making me so giddy?  This little pot of stuff that looks like chocolate mousse but isn't edible, even though it smells good enough to eat.

Now, I'm still a newbie in the fake tanning department and no matter how many times I read that you can put it on your face, it ain't gonna happen.  I've tried that in the past and have ended up with a face full of pimples.  Tanned pimples.  But pimples.  Now the word pimples has lost all meaning.

This primer gives a bit of colour and mattifies the skin, giving it a smooth texture, ready for foundation if you want to apply it.  It can be worn on it's own too which is my favourite way to wear it.  It claims to be a universal shade so can work on all skin tones and if you're paler than me, I'd just go a bit lighter on how much you use, but it'll still work and give you a hint of a tan.

And I've finally got a use for my Real Techniques Stippling Brush!  It works the velvety primer into my skin evenly, giving me an all over hint of bronziness and mattifying my skin like a good thing.  It looks scary when you first apply it, like in the middle photo below, but once it's blended in, you've a bit of colour and smoothed out pores and that's all I'm looking for in the summer to be honest!

You can use it on it's own, under foundation or under powder and I think I'm happy using it on it's own at the moment.  It still lets my freckles show through and evens out my skin tone.  Maybe if I was wearing it out on the town, I'd slap a bit of foundation on, but for day to day wear, it's great on it's own.

The Pixiwoo sisters are mad into contouring with the Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel and so I decided to give it a go with my Bronzing Primer and it worked great!  It's subtle once you blend it out properly and can be used to give your forehead a bit of contouring too if you should be so inclined.

Oh Bourjois Bronzing Primer, I think we are going to be very happy together this summer.  You are €13.99, so much cheaper than Chanel, and I foresee you being on my face for the next few months!

Totally worth checking out folks if you're looking for something that gives a bit of colour, mattifies, washes off and is pretty fantastic all things being considered.  This is in shops now, so go check it out!

  1. This just leads me to believe that Bourjois and Chanel are basically the same thing but Bourjois is cheaper! Second case of this is the cream blushes that are coming out with BOTH of them in the next few months. YAY for a cheaper version of Chanel! Me wantie. *adds to wishlist*

    1. I was watching a video by Goss Makeup Artist on YouTube last week, and he said that Bourjois OWN Chanel! So essentially they are nearly identical products, but pay a huge amount more for the Chanel name! I couldn't believe it, but it makes a lot of sense with a lot of their products being very similar.

  4. Love how subtle, yet effective it is. I have a sort of fear of contouring as I'm so pale I can't seem to get the hang of it and always end up looking a little orange and kinda dirty. I think I definitely need to brush up on my skills. Raspberrykiss xo

  10. Bourjois are owned by the same company as Chanel, so it's no surprise it's gorgeous! Have used this and their cream blusher to contour every day and love them both so much so I'll be stocking up in case of discontinuation

  11. Really enjoyed reading your review - you have such a great writing style! I recently bought this product and love it. I was wary at first as I'd read so many terrible reviews, but I really can't understand why! My experience has been as positive as yours.
