Essie Summer 2013 - first look!

It's extremely rare that I come across a nail polish collection and can't pick out an immediate favourite.  So when the Essie Summer 2013 arrived for me to try out, I was at a loss over which one to paint my nails with first.  I took it to Twitter for some guidance and you were all rubbish because each polish got the same number of votes!

Do you see why I found it so hard to pick an instant favourite?

This six shade collection has pastels, bright colours and even brighter shades still, meaning you're spoiled for choice this summer.  Five of the six have a fine shimmer running through them which I love for summer as technically we're supposed to have more sun, which technically should bounce off the shimmer, making the polishes even more beautiful.... Hopefully we'll get a bit more sun soon!

When I was in Aldi on Saturday doing the much loathed food shopping, I caught sight of this bunch of flowers and immediately thought they'd be a perfect prop for my Essie post as they were nice and matchy matchy.

With names inspired by cruises, sailing and general nautical-ness, this is the closest I'll ever get to a cruise ship!  I've seen Titanic.  I know what happens.  And don't even get me started on Jaws.  That film gave me nightmares as a child.  So I'm happy to keep anything to do with that mode of travelling to my nails thanks!

Top row: Sunday Funday, The Girls Are Out, Full Steam Ahead
Bottom row: Rock The Boat, Naughty Nautical, The More The Merrier
This post is just going to be pretty photos because I've a lot of swatches to show you.  I wanted to do the polishes justice and doing it all in one post would mean it'd take ages to load, so stay tuned for the swatches and a little extra in tomorrow's post.  They inspired me to get a little creative so hopefully it'll be worth the wait!  So sit back, relax and have a look at the matchy matchy flowers and polishes!

Sunday Funday

Sunday Funday is a pinky corally shade with shimmer running through it.  When the six shades were delivered to Joanne's job, this was on her nails in less than two minutes.  She told me it lasted five days on her without chipping which is amazing!  I do love me some coral polishes.

The Girls Are Out

The Girls Are Out is described as a fuchsia peony shade and has shimmer running through it.  I love shades like this for holidays as there's nothing like a bright vivid polish to set of a tan.

Full Steam Ahead

Full Steam Ahead makes me want to wear white flowy clothes and walk along the beach on a sunny day.  There's something relaxing about a lilac shade like this and again, this has shimmer.

Rock The Boat

The only boat rocking I've ever done is the Rock The Boat dance that typically occurs between the hours of 1am and 2am at a wedding.  When I look at this light French blue polish with shimmer, I imagine myself in a whitewashed house by the beach.  Everything inside is white from the walls to the wooden furniture and then I realise that I'm a messy oaf and could never be able to live anywhere with that much white going on.  It's a nice fantasy to have while wearing this polish though.

Naughty Nautical

I would have been hard pressed to find a flower the same colour as Naughty Nautical, so this is a photo of contrasts!  I love anything teal, aqua or marine coloured on my nails in the summer and this one is a cracker. The shimmer in this polish is incredible and brings it to a whole other level.

The More The Merrier

The More the Merrier is the only shade without shimmer.  This lime green shade is very close to being a neon and is an absolute beaut for the summer.

Essie's summer collection is on counters this month and are €9.99 each.  Stay tuned for swatcharoonies tomorrow!

  10. I love all of them, except for the 'Shrek' color, although I like the movies haha. I'm the proud owner of 'Sunday Funday', 'The Girls Are Out' en 'Naughty Nautical' (don't you just love that name haha). I like the pale blue and the lilac as well, but I allready have a massive amount of lilac and pale blue polishes..
