Smashbox Fade to Black collection - first look!

On Tuesday I had a little sneak peek of Smashbox's autumn collection and I know we're all having the best summer weather at the moment, but wait until you see it.  It's called Fade to Black, inspired by film, where the phrase "fade to black" means to dim the lights for dramatic effect, this collection gets me excited to start wearing more dramatic makeup.

I don't know about you, but in the summer, I don't go too wild on my eyes in terms of dark colour because it's so bright out even at night and I feel mad going out with a smokey eye when it's still daylight.  But come autumn and winter, I love packing on the shadows for a dramatic smokey eye and I'm getting more courageous in terms of lip colour!

I absolutely love the imagery for this collection and the model's eyes are perfection.  This is how I imagine myself walking around the place like a good thing, eyeshadow perfect, when in fact I end up looking like a drag queen!

There are two eyeshadow palettes in the collection (€39.50).  Each have seven shadows, a brush, a massive mirror and have gorgeous polished metallic packaging.  Fade In has shadows that gradually get darker, from gold pearl to safari green and Fade Out starts with a soft peach shade and gets darker shadow by shadow until the deep plum shade at the end.  Each one is wearable, beautiful and needs to be on my eyes.  They're versatile which makes justifying you buying one a cinch.  I mean, you could use the lighter shades for a daytime look and then add the darker shades for more drama and depth to the look.  Love these.

There are two Be Legendary Lipsticks in the Fade to Black collection (€19.00), Cognac and Black Cherry.  At first look, I thought Black Cherry would be too dark for me, but wait until you see it below in action... Beautiful.

I noticed Smashbox's make up artist Janine Bird wearing Black Gold, one of the Waterproof Shadow Liners (€19.00) when she did my make up a couple of weeks ago and when I met her again this week I said to her "You're wearing it again, aren't you?" She said "Yeah" and started laughing.  We both knew what we were talking about without mentioning the product itself!  And thats how obsessed I am with it.  It's a stunning antique gold colour that will go with all eye colours and I'm telling you, you are going to fall in love with it.  Mark my words.  There's a black Waterproof Shadow Liner in Blackest Black which is creamy, pigmented and adds drama.  Dun dun dunnnnnn!

Smashbox's Global Pro Lead Artist and all around gorgeous lady, Lori Taylor was on hand to talk to us and show us some of the products in action and give us some insight in to what trends to expect over the next few months. Think red lips, strong eyebrows, metallics and coloured liners.  I like the sound of that and can't wait to experiment with make up!

Talking with Lori is like talking to your friend.  If your friend is a genius with make up.  And really passionate about what she does.  And was totally inspired by Boy George and George Michael's Freedom video from back in the day.  I think one of the best things I saw that day was how the managers from Smashbox counters from Ireland and England, who were there for a masterclass that day, absolutely loved her and soaked up every tip and trick she had to offer.  Passion like that is infectious and if you don't believe me, go to the Smashbox counter in Arnotts and spend 5 minutes talking to Emma, one of the make up artists there, and I defy you not to leave feeling inspired, confident and poorer!

Lori showed us how to work Black Cherry and you can see how wearable it is.  It looks totally different on the lip compared to the bullet.

The Fade to Black collection will hit counters at the end of July and if you know what's good for you, you'll be there with me, checking the whole lot out!  Smashbox have really upped their game and have some fantastic new products coming soon.  I'm talking about a foundation that's really special, Liquid Halo and I can't wait to try it out properly and review it for you because it's pretty amazing.

I'll be showing you lots more over the next few weeks, so stay tuned.  These photos were just to whet your appetite!

Anything tickle your pickle?
