La Bougie Sage and Bitter Orange candle review

There is not a single person who has come in contact with this candle who doesn't love it.  La Bougie have cracked it with their Sage and Bitter Orange candle.

It arrived at Joanne's job for us to try and all the girls there fell in love with it, so much so that Joanne was asked to buy one for one of them over the weekend.  I opened it and literally sat with it beside me for a good couple of weeks before burning it because I loved the scent so much.  The brother was over last weekend and had a sniff and loved it, showing that being aimed at both men and women has worked!  The mothership had a whiff when I took her to visit them in Arnotts a few weeks ago and bought a couple for presents and then Joanne and I bought her one this weekend for herself.

All in all, the Sage and Bitter Orange candle is a big hit.  Massive.  It combines extracts from every part of the orange tree and the scent that stands out to me the most is the neroli from the orange blossom.  It's one of my all time favourite scents and every time I smell the candle, be it burning or not, I'm transported to Spain.  Along with orange peel from the fruit and petitgrain from the leaves and twigs, there's sage, geranium and juniper to create a fragrance inspired by the Italian barbershops in perfumer Lucy Hagerty's parents' home town in Italy.

It's been on heavy rotation for the past couple of weeks while I hold on to the last bits of summer and I'm 100% going to buy myself a replacement.  You need to smell this and I bet you'll fall in love with it like we have.  All of us who have been within two feet of it.  This sized candle is €19.95 and worth every penny or you can buy a larger one for €29.99.  You can find them in Arnotts or on their website which has a full list of independent stockists.

Have you tried any of the La Bougie candles?  Here's my review of the Pear and Sweetpea candle!

  2. €20 isn't actually a bad price at all for a lovely candle, I'd happily spend that on one if the scent grabbed me! Intrigued by the Sage element!
