L'Oreal False Lash Flutter Midnight Blacks & Superliners Midnight - photos, swatches, review

It's been ages since I've tried a mascara from L'Oreal and now I know why.  I was waiting for the False Lash Flutter mascara, I just didn't know it!  The Midnight Blacks collection has hit counters, with three mascaras and two liners to whet our whistles.

I've got these guys to show you today, so let's get to it.  Let's talk about the Blue Black and Purple Black liners and mascaras first.  In a nutshell, I'm not mad on the mascaras at all.  The formulation is nice, but I like my mascaras like I like my coffee.  Strong and black.  (Except I have milk and two sugars in my coffee, but it didn't have the same ring to it.) The mascaras come across ashy and grey on my lashes and it's only when you hold a mirror 3 inches from your eyes and if the light hits them at a certain angle that you'll see the blue or purple hint to the lashes, and it's a whisper of a hint.  I'd save my money and pick up the liners and the mascara in Blackest Black!

The liners are preeeeetty.  Looking almost black, but with hints of midnight blue and purple, they're absolutely perfect for folks like me who sometimes find black liner to be a bit much for day to day life.  These guys dry to a shiny finish and depending on how the light hits them, you can see the purple and blue undertones to them.  I'll show them in action in a video very soon.  We likey a lotty.

Blackest Black is my pick of the three mascaras and has been on my lashes since it arrived in the post.

Now, we know I like a good wand in terms of mascara and this one immediately made me think of one of the Kardashian mascaras which I loved.  One side of the wand houses bristles that get longer towards one end.  This means that it holds more product and when you're applying it to your lashes, it combs through those lashes on the outside corner, fans them out and makes them long and fluttery.  The other side of the wand has lots of really short bristles making it perfect for the lower lashes or those who have itty bitty diddy lashes.

You want the before and after shots don't you?
Volume, lift, length, separation and curl ticks all the boxes for me when it comes to mascara.  Factor in no clumps and we've got a winner!

Most work days, I stick to the one coat with any mascara I use and that's mainly due to lack of time in the morning.  And also due to lack of time, I don't always give myself time to apply shadow, so a good mascara is a must pour moi.

One coat
On nights out or when I'm wearing heavier eye makeup, I slap on the two coats and I'm good to go.  Like all mascaras, it's best not to apply the second coat if the first one has dried properly, and if you abide by this rule in life, you'll have grand fluttery eyelashes with nary a clump to be seen.

Two coats
This is one of my favourite mascaras of the year folks and as I've said before, the photos speak for themselves.  And the fact that my lashes look the same at the end of the day is the icing on the cake.  Oooh cake.

Back to the makeup Karen.  The Superliner Midnights are €9.85 and the Flutter Midnights Mascaras are €13.99.  Anything float your boat?

  3. I'm with you on the black mascaras - black like my soul - which has me thinking of YSL's Babydoll. The black one's supposed to be really black (although I didn't notice any extra "blackness") and smudgefree, so if you're ever in the mood for a splurge, that one might be for you? That being said, if I weren't so pleased with Clarins' Be Long mascara, looking at those feathery lashes of yours almost has me considering giving budget friendly mascaras another chance.

  4. Thank you!. I've been looking for a good budget mascara and I'm off to Boots at lunchtime for that black. Might treat myself to the purple liner while I'm at it!

  6. I just might have to try this one too! Atm I switch between Dior Iconic and L'Oréal Voluminous Million Lashes Excess which I love! Never thought I'd find a good drugstore option. :)

  8. Hi. Your lashes look great. One question. Does it smudge up on your eyelids or under your eyes? I find it hard to find one that doesn't. Thanks.
