Sephora comes to Ireland - kinda - in a very roundabout way!

So in Ireland, we're one step closer to bankruptcy as Sephora is now shipping to the UK....

I was in work and totally missed all of the hoo haa on Friday morning on Twitter when the news broke.  So Friday evening was spent perusing the website and it was a bit overwhelming having proper access to it and be able to legitimately shop on the site that most of us will have a wishlist for as long their arm.

Now, as much as I love Sephora and I do, I really do, my credit card bill after trips to New York and insanely huge stash of products will attest to that, but it makes me wonder what it would be like if Sephora was here, or in the UK.  Would it lose it's sparkle or appeal for me?  The last time I was in New York, I didn't go to Sephora until about 5-6 days into the trip because I wanted to be in the full of my health when entering for the first time that holiday and it was worth the wait.  I spent so much money I got one of the special shopping bags to carry it back to the hotel in.  Will this affect my trip there this November?  Will I get the same giddy feeling when I go in and see all the things and come out covered in swatches of all the things?

Ok so regarding shipping, they're offering a flat rate of £10 for orders over £75 which any beauty junkie knows, is way too easy and we'd reach that total in about 45 seconds.  Now us Irish bridies can order from them but we'd have to get our order Parcel Motel-ed which adds on an extra shipping cost.  It's only €3.50 but still, it's cashola.  Then we have to consider tax and import duties.  They can be spendy and so I'll have to weigh up how much I really want something to pay extra spondoolies like that.

British Beauty Blogger Jane has done a video explaining all about shipping, taxes and an order she made and you should go forth and watch it here.

Now, Tarte is one of my favourite brands and I'm obsessed with everything I've tried from them.  But it's coming to QVC this month so hopefully we'll be able to get our paws on it.  I love the Sephora brand products themselves and always pick up a couple of bits when I hit up Sephora in Alicante, so it'll be nice to have access to that now.  I want all of the Marc Jacobts things and am trying to avoid looking at them for my bank balance.  We won't be able to order brands like Hourglass, Nars, Smashbox and Make Up Forever and as I find out more, I'll update this post.  They won't ship aerosols or nail polishes which killed me on the inside as I spent ages looking up swatches of the Formula X polishes!

So c'mere.  How do you feel about this new development in the beauty world?  Will you be getting a group together to order stuff and split the taxes or will you hold off and wait until you're in an actual Sephora?

I think I'm torn!  I love being able to browse the site properly and having access to so many products, but wonder will the taxes take the shine off things and will I not look forward to being in an actual Sephora so much any more?

Thoughts ladies?  Do we need to set up a Sephora Shipping Group?!

  1. Hmmm. I've a feeling all the faff will put me off. Plus the customs! I was hit so hard with a feel unique order, which they did refund, but still twas a pain. I think I'll stick to just getting excited when I'm near a real store!

    1. Yeah, I'm not much of a faffer either. I remember ordering stuff from Victoria's Secret years ago and nearly died at the customs charges!

  2. I love looking at the site myself too, but I'm heading to New York in April, so for the time it would take me to decide what I want, and the time it would take to get here, and all the costs of packaging and what not, I think I'm better off to wait till I'm physically in a Sephora shop and can have the boy carry everything for me :D

  3. Their website says they guarantee no extra cost s on the ground. I read that as no customs, I hope that's what it means because I just spent a small fortune....

  5. I say skip it and use Motives instead. They are dedicated to great quality at a better price, and use all the top manufacturers under their own label. I'll never go back to Sephora! Check it out here: http://bit.ly/1eME1oK

  6. Well...I live in England and when I heard this I thought I would put an order in...but I started adding stuff to my basket and then saw how much the tax would be! I really want to try some of the tarte amazonian clay blushes (I have 4 on my list) and the josie moran coconut water cheek/lip tint (think that's what it's called). Once all the tax and delivery was added it came to well over £100 so I clicked off the website and can't see myself ordering any time soon-as much as I love makeup, I can't justify spending all that in 1 go when me and my husband are trying to save for a mortgage deposit, damnit! I mean it worked out about £25 for each blusher, which when I have lots I love already is an awful lot x

    1. I hear ya Emma. I'm obsessed with the clay blushes and have a good few in my collection, but maybe when Tarte is available from QVC this month you might be able to pick up one or two without breaking the bank? The blushes are worth it, honest to God!

  9. I want all the Tarte. Sigh. I went on for look over the weekend and had 3 of the clay blushes in my basket. But it's too dear. I'll wait till they are on QVC . And I like the "joy" of visiting Sephoras.

  10. I went straight to the Sephora website when the news broke, added Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder & NARSissist palette to my basket & was absolutely disgusted to find that they'd ship neither to me. Feckers, they can get stuffed now. Plus that £75 is before taxes, then £10 shipping, plus €3.50 Parcel Motel, plus currency exchange rate, plus possible customs on this end. Nope, not happening.
