Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet review, photos, swatches - shade 02 Frambourjoise, 03 Hot Pepper, 06 Pink Pong

As a dry lipped bridie, I've had to shy away from matte lip products as they've dried out my already Sahara-esque lips even more.  I used to look longingly at photos of women with soft, matte lips, knowing that I'd never be that woman.

Until now!

This month sees a new release from Bourjois, their Rouge Edition Velvet matte lip products and it's True Love.  With texture that feels like a lip lacquer when applying, before turning into a matte finish, they're unlike anything else I've got in my collection.  And we know I have a grand collection.

In terms of packaging, they're lightweight, small and colourful.  Perfect for popping in one's handbag.

One coat gives a light yet matte finish to the lips and if you were a bit scared of colour on the lipulars then you could stop there.  But where's the fun in that?!  Two layers gives the most wonderfully pigmented finish on the lips and makes them look soft, pillowy and velvety.

The applicator allows you to be precise around the edges which is good as I'm not for faffing about with lip pencils.  I like to apply a layer, let it dry for a couple of minutes and then apply the second layer.  You have about a minute or two before it sets, so feel free to smush your lips together to even out the colour because once it sets, it sets.

My lips are in great shape at the moment, thanks to some other products I'll be telling you about later this week, and because of that, I can't tell you if the Rouge Edition Velvets cling to any dry patches because I have none for the first time in ages!  What I did notice was that if my lips were in any way wet, it wouldn't stick to them, so as long as I made sure they were dry, we were good to go.

I have three of the eight shades to play with and each one is bright, beautiful and right out of my comfort zone and yet I love them all like little colourful children.  And yes, as much as I love them, I still want the dusky pink and possibly a peach one but need to see them in person first.  Look at me being all restrained!

First up is shade 03 Hot Pepper which is a bright orange toned red and not as scary on as I thought it was going to be!  Just look at it.....  I actually think I could wear this outside the house!  And you know what, I'm going to say it but how gorgeous is a matte red lip at Christmas?  I feel like a total movie star wearing this and it was a total surprise for moi!

Now, 06 Pink Pong is a vibrant fuchsia pink and the first thing I thought of when I saw it was, ooh Mags would love this colour.  It's her in lipstick form and if you read her posts, you'll know what I mean.  I don't really wear pinks myself but really want to wear a black and white outfit with this on my lips.  Funky, modern and gorgeous.  That's me.  In my mind.

Finally we have 02, Frambourjoise which is a pinky red shade that's totally within my comfort zone and I wore it in my March Favourites video if you want to check that out.  In some light it looks red and in some it looks pink but what I can say that despite me not being able to say the name without like I've gone into slow motion, it's beautiful.  Fact.

Now it claims to have 24 hour hold and if you wear your makeup for 24 hours straight, what are you doing with your life?  Don't you get tired and want to go to bed?!  Ah but seriously, I wore these for a good 4 hours before my lips started to feel dry.  Any other matte product has lasted an hour maximum before I needed to remove it as sucked the moisture out of them.  Not with these.  There is some transfer when I go to take a drink of something, but less than with a lipstick or lipgloss.  They fade away without leaving you with crusty lips, patchiness or other such things that we usually associate with matte lip products.

Keep your eyes peeled for their launch mid April because I predict these are going to sell out quickly!  And despite being on a spending ban, yes, two more shades will be investigated and most likely purchased when they hit counters.  €12.49 is the damage and I challenge you to stop yourself at buying just the one!

So tell me, are you intrigued?  Which colour is your favourite of the three?
