The Holy Grail Conundrum!

No I'm not talking about a holy relic or anything, I'm talking about The Holy Grail - Makeup Edition.  You know the score.  One of your aims in life is to find The Perfect Mascara, Foundation, Nude Lipstick etc  You're obsessed with trying new ones in the elusive search and know some day that you'll find it and can shout it from the rooftops!

A couple of years ago I came across my Holy Grail mascara; Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill.  It was love at first application.  It gave me definition, lift, separation, curl, volume and basically made my lashes look like they should be in an ad but without the airbrushing.  I raved about it to everyone I met because it was The One.  So when it ran out, I got myself ready to buy another one.  I was in Sephora in New York at the time and casually sauntered over to the Giorgio Armani counter ready to pick it up and was delighted because Joanne was getting a few for her and the girls at work based on my ravings.

So what did I do?  Bought Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Excess.  Yes.  I didn't replace it... I bought one that I thought might be better...  It had Excess in the name... Excess = more = better lashes, correct?  What if I was wrong and Eyes To Kill mightn't be the Holy Grail?  What if I could be limiting myself to potentially amazing lashes because I was close minded and assumed Eyes to Kill was as good as it gets?  I was having the ultimate makeup equivalent of Fear Of Missing Out.  So I got the Excess version thinking it would be better.  And it wasn't... FML

So tell me, is there a Holy Grail product you buy time and time again or are you like me and scared that if you limit yourself to the same products, you might be missing out on The Ultimate Holy Grail?!  Tell me I'm not alone in my lunacy in wanting to try every product out just in case!

  1. I have a few: Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot, Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation and Bourjois Coup De Theatre 2 in 1 mascara are the first that spring to mind. I know that there are a few more that I keep going back to - but I love hearing about the next big thing and love trying out new products. I jsut can't help myself!

  2. Do you know, I've never thought of this before. I know that Lancome La Vie Est Belle & Dior Pure Poison are my HG perfumes, yet I constantly buy other ones. I know that Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24h in 005 is perfect for me yet I keep buying different ones to try. I know at this stage I could easily have a little capsule makeup bag with about 15 products I know work and I know suit me..........but WHERE is the fun in that? :)

    1. Ah, a bridie after my own heart! We'll never reach the end of the millions of products out there and I wouldn't have it any other way!

  3. I don't think I have EVER repurchased a make up product... Other than when I was 14 & bought Rimmel concealer more often than my mother bought milk. My HG perfume is La Vie Est Belle but I have so many others that I don't even want to use! Everything else changes on a regular basis.

  4. Hmmmm Chanel Inimitable mascara, I loved and adored it, perfect length, curl and separation....then they brought out Inimitable Intense and I bought it and it was rubbish, I went back to Inimitable. THEN they brought out Le Volume De Chanel, which almost ticks all the boxes, it has more volume than Inimiatable, but can clump if you're not careful, and it's a bugger to get off. I'm torn, I dunno which I prefer and at €30 a pop you wouldn't be having one of each on the go at a time. Also Laura Mercier translucent setting powder. I loved it, but when it came time to replace it I got swayed by great reviews and fancy pacakaging and tried Chanel (rubbish), Lancome (useless) and Nars (alright but ginormous), I shall return to Laura Mercier if I ever manage to get to the end of this tub of Nars.

  5. My HG perfume is definitely Daisy by Marc Jacobs, to the point that people think it's my natural smell, teeheehee. And if you like this mascara, you should also try the Supercurl Curling mascara by Urban Decay.
As for other make-up products, I'm also addicted to trying new stuff, resulting in a make-up drawer my boyfriend finds both hilarious and ridiculous at the same time. I'm quite a faithful puppy to my skincare though: Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream, you aren't the most exciting moisturizer in the book, but I love you. I really do.
