Essie Summer 2014, swatches, photos, review

Brights and neutrals - that's Essie's Summer 2014 collection in a nutshell and it's one of those collections where I had to actually sit and think about which one I wanted to paint my nails with first. Usually one will instantly stand out but there were three that were fighting for my attention and once I tried each shade for the swatches, it became harder to pick a favourite!

In terms of formula, there wasn't a bad one in the bunch and I used two coats for most of the swatches you'll see below.  With one shade I used three coats and with another I used one, but I'll explain all below.  These guys have those wide brushes that cover the nail as you swipe away and makes application really easy.  I didn't have to do any clean up in the photos you'll see and I think I've waffled enough, let me show you these beauties!

Roarrrrange

You know I love me some orange polishes in the summer and Roarrrrange is the actual business.  It's only massive and puts a smile on my face whenever I look at my nails.  It's bright, summery and if you're in the market for an orange polish, then look no further and yes, you will want to make a roar noise every time you read the name.  This is my favourite of the six and is summer in a bottle.

Haute in the Heat

Sure it wouldn't be summer without a vibrant berry shade and Haute in the Heat ticks that box.  Perfect for summer evenings when one is drinking a sangria, it's a deep enough shade to be able to wear all year around.  And even better?  It's a one-coater.  Happy days for those of us in a rush or who decide to paint our nails right before bed.

Essie Haute in the Heat
Fierce, No Fear

Fierce, No Fear was one of the shades that didn't instantly stand out to me but once I applied it, I absolutely loved it.  It's one of those sophisticated, chic shades and looks like a dupe for the much loved Metro Chic from Sephora by OPI from back in the day.  Ah good times.  This is a tie for my second favourite of the bunch and will be in constant rotation over the coming months.

Ruffles & Feathers

Ruffles & Feathers worked with me like a peacock in that I was instantly drawn to it when I saw the line up.  Bright, teal, in your face and I love it.  It stains so make sure you use a base coat.  I feel all tropical just looking at it... It'd look great with a pina colada in my hand wouldn't it....

Strut Your Stuff

I like to think I'm drawn to blue polishes in the summer because it makes me think of swimming pools.  I am nowhere near a swimming pool but can pretend I am and sure Strut Your Stuff is the same colour as the sky we've been having over the last few weeks.  Happy days!  This mid toned blue is a winner but again, make sure to put a base coat on because you'll end up with blue nails otherwise.  I shall strut my stuff when I wear this shade.

Urban Jungle

If you want to look more tanned, then this light beige shade, Urban Jungle, is just the ticket.  I know white nails have made a return recently but I still favour the off white shades and this one is a beaut.  It has slight pinky purpley undertones to it and for something so pale, I need the three shades to make sure I get an even finish.  Love this shade so much and it's the tie with Fierce, No Fear for my second favourite.

So Essie, you've done me proud.  I love this collection and as mentioned above, my picks are Urban Jungle, Fierce, No Fear and Roarrrrange.  They're perfect!

The summer collection will be in selected pharmacies nationwide this month and are €9.99.

Which one is speaking to you?
