Favourite Five Halloween YouTube Makeup Tutorials that even I could do!

So tomorrow is Halloween and I don't know where the month of October has gone!  I love watching Halloween makeup tutorials on YouTube and despite having zero talent when it comes to doing that kind of thing myself, I still watch my favourites in the hopes that I'll be able to learn from them!

If you're heading to a party and are stuck for something to dress up as but want to make some effort, any of these 5 makeup looks will sort you out.  And the best thing is, you only need makeup to do them yourself, no latex or special effects which is what someone like me needs.  So let's get to it shall we?  I've been keeping tabs on my YouTube subscription box over the past few weeks so I could bring you my Favourite Five this spooky season!

Sharon Farrell

When I saw this thumbnail in my subscription box, I was convinced Sharon Farrell, Irish makeup artist extraordinaire, had posted a black and white photo.  But no, she's just used white, black and grey to achieve this gorgeous 20s inspired makeup look that I think I'd actually be able to do myself!  I'm a massive fan of Sharon as it is, so make sure you subscribe to this talented lady.

The Makeup Fairy

Ah Joanne Larby, you're a grand bridie who knows that even a gobshite like me could attempt this super easy skeleton makeup tutorial!  Granted, I would probably mess-up the itty bitty lines and would end up with things being a bit messier but I really think I'd be able to attempt this!  Of course, after a few drinks, who knows what state I'd be in but still, totally achievable.  Nice one Joanne!

Promise Phan

Promise Phan is one of my favourite non Irish makeup artists and girlfriend has mad skills when it comes to Halloween, so make sure to check out her channel for lots more tutorials, Halloween and otherwise.  I love this cartoon tutorial and again, totally doable!  Now I just need to find me a blue wig...

LetzMakeup

Irish makeup artist Siobhan McDonnell is the queen of Halloween and I always look forward to her tutorials year after year.  Except this year, she's fa-reeeeeaked me out with this amazing 3D spider tutorial and there's a scary clown one too that I haven't been able to watch due to post traumatic stress after watching Stephen King's "It" many years ago.  If you aren't a wimpazoid like me, then go and watch it and let me know if I'd have nightmares.  Otherwise, watch the 3D spider tutorial one but beware if you do this, then have a few drinks, you might frighten the actual shite out of yourself when you look in the mirror going to bed.  Don't say I didn't warn you!

Pixiwoo

If the tutorials above still seem like they might be too hard for you this Halloween, then watch Sam's tutorial where she shows face stickers from Claire's Accessories and uses ones from Face Lace .  I could totally stick stuff on my face!  Sam and Nic have lots of Halloween tutorials on their channel so you know what to do and let's be honest, you should already be subscribed to them as it is.

So those are my favourite five Halloween tutorials this year!  Maybe next year I'll suddenly have developed some talent and be able to do a few tutorials myself but that's highly doubtful, so I'll do this post again next year with five more talented makeup artists showing off their skills!

Kerastase Nutritive Nectar Thermique - or the thing that gives me amazing hair all the time

There hasn't been one product that has prompted so many compliments about my hair in ages.  I haven't used it every day, but when I do, I've a 100% hit rate for people asking me if I'd had my hair done, cut or blow dried.   Even Joanne has said to me to tell her what I'm using on my hair because she's going to buy it.  The fact that she even noticed anything at all is huge!

It's down to this haircare hero.  Kerastase Nutritive Nectar Thermique is a polishing nourishing milk that protects hair from heat while giving incredible shine, body and thickness to the hair, without weighing it down.  And it smells fab too.  Now it's definitely not a milk if we're going by texture alone.  It's a thick conditioning cream that you apply to the dry parts of your hair after towel drying it before you have at it with the blow dryer.  I always dry my hair upside down, brushing it as I go and after using this, my hair is the swishiest it's ever been, full of bounce, body, shine and no frizz.

I know that using heat on our hair is bad for it, but it's autumn now and that means I can't go to bed with damp hair anymore or I'll catch a cold in my kidneys.  And sure it's much nicer going to bed with dry hair isn't it?  So using this means I can use heat on my locks to my heart's content, knowing it'll protect my hair while reducing hair breakage and speeding up blow drying time.  I can't see any difference when it comes to hair breakage but I've definitely noticed that it takes less time to dry it and whether I use it in the morning or evening, being speedy is very important to moi as moi is always late/exhausted.

There are three variations of thermal protection depending on your hair type.  Dicipline Keratine Thermique helps unruly hair fight the frizz and humidity, Resistance Ciment Thermique helps strengthen weakened hair and this one, the Nutritive Nectar Thermique which helps prevents roughness and dullness with dry hair.  They're all €23.50 and if the other two are anything like this one, then you need to check 'em out.

Two massive Lovely Girlie thumbs up from me and while this was sent to me to test out, I'll be purchasing it myself when I run out which will be soon because I'm hoofing my way through it having perpetually lovely hair!  You can pick them up on the Kerastase site or in salons nationwide.

My favourite autumn candles from Max Benjamin, La Bougie, This Works & Molten Brown

Ok, I know that what I'm about to say will make me sound like a total bridie but my favourite thing on a Sunday is to snuggle up on the couch in all my fleece (they need to invent fleece underwear), light a bunch of candles, turn off the lights and watch Love Hate.  I'm very into candles and cosiness right now and while I do light lots of candles, I generally only light one scented one, the rest are tea lights in cute candle holders.  If I was to light every candle I own, I'd give myself a touch of the vapours.

I went through a phase years ago of being afraid to light candles, wanting to keep them for "good use".  What that means, I don't know but now I've been using them up like there's no tomorrow and when I'm tucked up on the couch with Bailey snoring away, I want there to be no tomorrow because it's the business!

Some new candles have come into my life recently and I wanted to share them with you because we all need to start a candle, couch and fleece club, for reals.

Max Benjamin Tea Candles

Irish candle company Max Benjamin has released a new 5 strong collection of candles infused with tea fragrances, each one more gorgeous than the last.  It has Assam & Lemon, Lime Flower & Lavender, Raspberry & Ginseng, Serene Jasmine and Victorian Earl Grey.  Regular readers of the blog will know that I love all things jasmine so of course, Serene Jasmine is my favourite.  But only by a hair because the whole collection smells divine.  And will you check out the packaging!  They come with a lid to keep the dust away and make them look even prettier if that's possible.  They kick off so much scent and I find that lighting one in the living room fills the whole of the downstairs of the house with the light, delicate fragrance.  I can't wait to finish one so I can start the next one!  And at €15, they're such a bargain and will make a great little Secret Santa/Stocking Stuffer present.

This Works Lavender & Roman Chamomile Candle

As a massive fan of the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, it was a given that at some point I'd pick up one of their candles too.  The Lavender & Roman Chamomile candle is perfect for relaxing and unwinding after a long day and I've been burning this on my bedside table, creating an air of calm before bed time.  I found mine in TK Maxx but you can buy it online here.  I don't like candles that are too strong when it comes to bed time and this one is perfect for filling the air with it's scent, but not my schnoz.

Molten Brown Firefly Embers Candle

This is Joanne's candle but I "borrowed" it for the purpose of this blog post (and totally used it twice).  I smelled this during the summer in Arnotts and fell in love.  Deep in love.  If you don't have a proper fireplace in your home and want it to smell like burning logs, all autumnal and bonfire-y, then you need to smell Firefly Embers.  It's warm, cosy and will make you want to whip out the marshmallows!  It's expensive at €49, but holy moly it's gorgeous.  Totally one for snuggling up on the couch with!

La Bougie Mission Fig Candle

Lucy Hagerty, founder and perfumer at La Bougie Candles has expanded her collection to include Mission Fig.  Created in Tuscany, Lucy wanted to create a unique fig fragrance and Mission Fig is beautiful.  It's sweet, slightly floral and makes for the perfect scent to take us into autumn.  I'm a massive fan of La Bougie and have been alternating Mission Fig with Sage & Bitter Orange.  These candles are well worth the €20 and you can find a list of stockists here.

Are you mad into your candles too at the moment or is it just me?  Tell me what you're burning now so I can add it to my list because there are a lot of dark evenings ahead of us and we need to be all cosy!

Win!! Roger & Gallet hamper worth €180! #LovelyGirlieBlogoversary

Ooh look what we have for you today!  If you're a fan of French brand Roger & Gallet, then you need to listen up because we have a hamper up for grabs for one lucky reader!  It's worth €180 smackaroonies and I'll make sure some of my favourites are in there, so that we can be twinsies.  Lovely smelling twinsies.

You know how obsessed I am with the Gingembre scent which I discovered exactly two years ago.  And how do I know it was two years ago?  Because it was right before we went to New York and I loved it so much, I brought the shower gel and body lotion with me and now associate the scent with The Big Apple!  So I might have to do the same thing this year for old time's sake...

To be in with a chance to win, you need to be a resident of Ireland, north or south.  Just enter your details in the widget and the more steps you carry out, the more entries you get!

Good luck!

Win! An NYX hamper worth €100! #LovelyGirlieBlogoversary

Today's blogoversary giveaway is courtesy of NYX, one of the brands we were so excited to get our grubby little swatch filled paws on earlier this year.  It's always the case that you covet the things you can't get isn't it?  We'd been stocking up any time we headed to the States and had to resort to Ebay when we were stuck in Ireland without the possibility of giving anyone a beauty shopping list if they were America bound!

I'm in the absolute love with the butter glosses, the blushes, the jumbo lip pencils and that's just the tip of the iceberg!  I'll slowly make my way through the entire contents of the NYX stand and report back to you.  I'm very good like that so I am.  #anyexcuse

Now it's available in pharmacies nationwide and each week there are more stands appearing which is great news!  This week I discovered a brand new stand in the chemist in the Merrion Centre, so I have no excuse when I want to pop in "for a look"... Famous last words eh!

We've got a hamper worth €100 for one lucky winner to celebrate the blog turning 4 and all you have to do is enter your details in the widget below and you're in with a chance!  This is open to residents of Ireland (North or South) and good luck!

New! Garnier BB Cream + Blur review, photos, comparison

You know I'm a big fan of the Garnier BB Cream and truth be told, it's still one of the most searched for blog posts here at Lovely Girlie Bits.  I've also spoken about the Garnier 5 Second Perfect Blur here and still find it fantastic at filling in my crater pores and creating a smooth canvas to pile the war paint on.  Well they've only gone and combined the two products into one and we do know how I enjoy multifunctional products because girlfriend here likes to carry around as few products as possible to ensure she doesn't develop back problems.

So the Garnier BB Cream and Blur promises to smooth skin texture, blur wrinkles and imprefections, leave a matte velvet finish, moisturise and even skin tone, all with a very healthy hit of SPF30.  Sounds like the perfect product doesn't it?

Now, a lot of BB Creams are high on coverage, making them sit more on the foundation end of the spectrum, but this version is definitely more on the sheer side, but is still buildable.  In terms of texture, it's nice and fluid, and I thought it was going to be thicker with the blurry stuff in it, but it's really lightweight on the skin and dare I say it, less visible on the skin and more natural compared to my beloved Garnier BB cream.
Garnier BB Cream + Blur before (L), after (R)
So I wanted to compare this new incarnation of the BB cream with the 5 Second Perfect Blur and the BB Cream from Garnier.  If they were essentially combining two products into one, then I wanted to see if we really needed the new thing if we had the two old things.  That's a lot of things but this is scientific beauty stuff!

When I first poured some of the BB Cream + Blur onto the back of my hand, I nearly had a nose bleed when I saw how dark it was and this was the light shade!  But you can see from the swatches above that it blends out into a similar shade, ever so slightly darker, but less yellow toned than the original BB cream.

Garnier BB Cream applied over Garner 5 Second Perfect Blur
You can see in the photos above what it looks like when I apply the 5 Second Perfect Blur and then the regular BB Cream over the top.  It gives a decent amount of coverage, evens out the skin tone and gives a satin finish.

Now it's time to do side by side photos!

Garnier BB Cream + Blur (L), Garnier 5 Second Perfect Blur and Garnier BB Cream (R)
It's only when I had the two products on my face at the same time that I really saw the difference in them.  The BB Cream + Blur gives a much more natural finish to the skin and evens out my complexion while still letting my skin shine through.  And despite it being a bit darker, it looks so much nicer and more natural on the skin.  Despite promising a matte finish, it definitely gives a slight glow to my skin which I prefer when I see the two sides of my face beside each other like this!  I think that the side of my face with the 5 Second Perfect Blur and BB Cream looks a bit flat in comparison to the other side, it looks a bit more yellow and while it does have a satin finish, I'm not sure I like it as much as the other side.  How fickle am I!

Garnier 5 Second Perfect Blur and Garnier BB Cream (L), Garnier BB Cream + Blur (R)
Behold a photo where half of my face has one set of products and half has the other.  You can see from my nose that the two products layered definitely gives more coverage, but again, looking at the photo and seeing it in person, I think I prefer the new offering.  Luckily I don't have many wrinkles (yet) so I can't see much of a difference in terms of blurring any lines on my face.

So my verdict?  If you're after something that's going to give a light coverage, that evens out your complexion, gives a subtle glow to the skin and make you look a bit more alive while pretending your skin is naturally lovely, then this is one to check out.  Just don't have a mickey fit when you pour it out onto the back of your hand, it does blend out lighter, but pale girls will need to keep looking.

Now if I was doing a video on this, you know for an actual fact that I'd have to get in the Spice Girls "2 become 1" line complete with hand gestures because in this case, they've combined two great products to make one even better product in my opinion.  It'll set you back a very random RRP€15.24 and is in shops now.

Are you intrigued?  And are you singing 2 become 1 now?

Sephora Wish List #3

How in the name of all that is good in the world is it time for my third wish list post?!  Our trip to New York (or Noo Yoik as we like to say in the voice of Joey Tribbiani) is fast approaching and next month I'll have one more list of things I shan't necessarily be buying, but will need to get up close and personal with.  I've already saved the photo from the previous two wish lists which you can see here and here so I can march into Sephora, have a mickey fit because I will actually be inside said Sephora and be able to touch the things.  The sales assistants will get to know me, we'll become friends, I'll spend a lot of money, they'll give me samples and life will be so much better!

So here's what I've been coveting recently from Sephora!

Sephora Wish List #3

It wouldn't be a trip to New York at Christmas without picking up one of these amazing sets which has 10 mini mascaras and a mini eye makeup remover to boot.  Sets like these are a great way to try lots of products without having to invest in the full size and yes, this will be mine.  I haven't even looked to see what mascaras it has.  One second.  Yes.  Just checked.  This sound perfectamundo.

I do love a good gel liner, especially in pencil form, mainly for ease of use and carrying around.  But would you look at the packaging on these guys!  I can't even cope with how gorgeous these are and now need to research swatches.  And check out the collectable case they come on.  Seriously, I'm a packaging hoor!

I know, I can hear you thinking this: "Jesus Mary and Holy Saint Joseph Karen, what are you doing looking at yet another neutral eyeshadow palette?"  And I say to you "Shadappaya face, I have a problem!"  Seriously though, this is one of those staple palettes I really and truly do see myself getting a lot of use out of.  Any excuse wha?  A bone fide makeup junkie like myself can justify anything.  Fact.

I know I'll definitely be picking up some of the Formula X polishes but check out this limited edition set with 22 mini polishes.  I do have a soft spot for mini sized anything because a) they make me feel like a giant and b) I actually stand a chance of finishing something!  There's a reason why you've never seen an empties post or video from me!  This set has a nice balance of neutrals, brights, darks and glitters.

This is a no brainer.  It's a blush palette.  It's from Tarte.  I need it.  Oh and all 5 shades are new.  Yes, get on my face now bishes!

Where would you be getting 8 eyeshadows, 4 blushes and a highlight for $15?  In bloody Sephora, that's where.  This set looks perfect for plopping into my makeup bag for days where I've meetings on right after work and need to make myself look presentable.  Yes, hurry on down to bargain town.

I know, more Tarte, but not being able to get it easily here in Ireland makes me covet it so much more.  And this little cheek set with a blush and cheek tint is just too dinky not to check out when I'm there.  And it's $10!  It would be an actual mortal sin not to get one just because.

This is the last of the Tarte (this month) I promise!  But look at it.... It's a gorgeous set with 20 eyeshadows (neutral as per usual), a mini mascara, lip products, cheek stain, powder, maracuja oil and that all comes in a gorgeous travel bag.  I love complete sets like this and shall be swatching the shadows to see if they're worth picking up.  I'm guessing yes.

This 17 piece sampler set of all the lip products known to man is The Actual Business.  Roll up, roll up because it has glosses, lipsticks, lip balms and lip creams from brands including Tarte, Too Faced, Hourglass, Bite Beauty and so many more.  As I said earlier, mini things make me happy, but what I failed to mention was that mini lip products make me even happier because I have a tendency to keep popping random lip products into my bag as the month goes on, and then I can't figure out why my back is sore until I empty said bag to find millions of lippies in there.  I could put all 17 items in my bag and not even notice couldn't I?

And that concludes this month's Sephora wish list.  I'm not even joking, every time I do these posts where I get to take my time and browse the Sephora website, I give myself the squirts from excitement.  TMI but this is the truth!  Pray for me when I actually set foot inside one....

Did you see anything you liked the look of here?

First look! Bourjois Smoky Stories palettes - photos, swatches

As you know, I have a massive soft spot for Bourjois and have always said that they do foundations and mascaras that put some of the higher end brands to shame.  I've also always felt that the one place they were lacking was in the eyeshadow department.  Until now.  Oh em geeeeeeeee these new Smoky Stories palettes are seriously amazing and when I was in Boots over the weekend, I had to pick up these three after missing the launch last month.  There are 8 shades in total but I just went for the ones I thought I'd get the most use out of.  They were €10.49 but Boots had an offer on where you could get two Bourjois products for €19, so that's what I did, thinking I was great and then saw a third one that I couldn't leave behind.

The packaging is cute and simple, with a clear acrylic top where you can see the shades inside.  And let me just say in terms of formulation, first impressions are that these are so soft and buttery.  They're really pigmented with little fall out and each of the three main shades work so well together and complement each other perfectly.  The sparkly centre shade acts as a highlight which you can use in the inner corner of your eyes, or on the eyelid to add a little more light to your eyes.

Upside Brown

For lovers of cool toned neutrals, Upside Brown is the business.  The swatched shade on the left reminds me of MAC's Patina and is perfect for an all over wash of colour on the eyelid.  The darker shades can be used to add smokiness and definition to the look and this palette would be a great one to keep in your makeup bag if you're heading out after work and need to add a little somethin' somethin' to your eyeballs.

Over Rose

Give me anything on the purpley plum end of the spectrum and I'll be all over it because palettes like Over Rose works like a dream with my green eyes.  The lightest shade was a bit too light for me to use for anything other than a brow highlight but those darker two shades, well they're just perfectamudno.  The sparkly shade is the most beautiful rose gold that didn't translate on camera, but needless to say, I'll be adding it to all of my looks.

Good Nude

When autumn hits, I always turn to palettes like Good Nude with it's neutral brown goodness with purple undertones.  That shade that's second from the left in the swatches is what life is all about right now ... The silver sparkle is the most pigmented of all the sparkle shades in the three palettes and I bet that they'll all be glitter-licious when applied wet.

With these three palettes, I keep picking a favourite and then change my mind.  I wanted to give them the love and attention they deserve so I'll be filming a video using them in the next week, so stay tuned for that.  I want you to see how easy they are to work with, how if I can do a couple of makeup looks with my cack handed ability, then you will too!

Head to Boots to visit these guys and I'm telling you, they'll be love at first swatch.  I dare you to try and pick up just one!

Win! La Roche-Posay hamper worth €180! #LovelyGirlieBlogoversary

We're back with a monster giveaway today thanks to the kind folks at La Roche-Posay!  They've given us a hamper worth €180 for one lucky winner and the hamper itself will be a surprise to everyone because they're going to pack it full of amazing products and I'll make sure some of my favourites are in there (Ahem Cicaplast and Thermal Spring Water for sure)!

I get to try a lot of skincare products here on the blog and from time to time, my face goes a bit doolally with all of the trying of the things.  And every single time this happens, I go back to my beloved skincare from La Roche-Posay.  It's like the Ronseal of the skincare world in that it does what it says on the tin.  And we won't forget how until I started making Joanne use the Hydraphase moisturiser, she was only able to use Creme De La Mer as it was the only thing that would hydrate her skin without irritation.  She owes me and La Roche-Posay big time for saving her money and saving her face!

Now, to help you imagine what'll be inside the hamper, here's a wee visual to help motivate you into entering the giveaway.  This giveaway is open to residents of Ireland only (north and south).

Good luck!

Hourglass Ambient Blush Palette is available for pre order on SpaceNK! Discount code too!

What better way to start a Friday than to get a tweet from your bloggy chum DollyRouge to let you know that the Hourglass Ambient Blush Palette is available to pre order on the SpaceNK website!  So I did it.... Spending ban terms and conditions stated (in my mind) that when this was available, I'd be buying it and I big fat did!  And here's the clincher - SpaceNK are giving us £10 off when we spend £40 or more, so this ended up being £46 instead of £56.  Baaaaarrrrrggggaaaaaaaiiiinnnn!
I believe that we are going to be very happy together.  This will ship on November 1st, but I'm hoping it might ship a bit earlier as that's what happened when I ordered the ambient lighting powder last year.

I use my Ambient Blush in Dim Infusion nearly every day and have to force myself to use something else, such is the love I have for it, so I know 100% I'll get a lot of use out of this palette and sure I'd wanted Mood Exposure anyway.  And come on, look at that middle shade, is it not meant for me and all it's peachy corally goodness?

Yes, this will sell out once it launches, so be quick and pick it up here!  The code DISCOVER10 only lasts until this Tuesday the 14th of October at midnight, so decide quickly!

New! Narciso EDP - hello new favourite autumn scent

It's the age old story.  Girl goes to meeting about new autumn perfume.  Girl catches sight of a bottle labelled Narciso on the table.  Girl squints.  Girl hasn't seen this bottle before in any of the times she's visited the Narciso section of the perfumes, because girl is obsessed with all things Narciso Rodriguez, so girl knows this is new.  From the packaging alone, girl imagines it's going to be smooth, creamy and very amazing.  Girl is not wrong.

If you're looking for a new fragrance this autumn, then look no further.

The bottle is clean, simple and elegant, perfect for anyone who likes to display their perfumes on their dresser.  I don't care if we're supposed to protect our fragrances from daylight, I want it where I can see it!  And chances are at the rate I'm going through this bottle, it'll be lucky to last me until Christmas.  Factoid.

Narciso is a warm, sexy fragrance, perfect for cooler days and cosy nights.  The mix of florals and woody notes makes for a sensual yet feminine scent that I've been wearing at work and at night when I'm heading out.   It makes me want to get one of those really cosy cardigans, (the kind that take days to dry in in the winter and you swear you're never going to wear again but it's just so dang comfy) and wrap myself up in it.  It smells velvety if that makes sense - soft and plush but without being too heady.  I knew from the white bottle that it would be creamy and musky, but what I wasn't expecting was the hit of soft florals that start off the fragrance.  Bright yet sophisticated, just like moi!

Prices start at €52/30mls and Mr Rodriguez has done it again.  We already know that Essence Eau De Musc is my signature summer scent and now Narciso has become this year's autumn/winter scent.  For Her is one of those perfumes that I can wear all year around but Narciso, will you work on a spring time scent for me so I can complete my Rodriquez wardrobe!

Lovely Girlie Bits is 4!

Well would you look at that, we've only gone and made it to the four year mark and in the blogging world that's a long time!  It really feels like it was only last year that I set up camp in this corner of the internet thinking it'd be a hobby that I'd mess around with for a few months.  Four years later and it's developed into a second job that I'd love to have as my first job, so I'm going to keep working my bum off to try and make that happen!  The hard work is starting to pay off now so I'm going to try and keep the momentum going over the next year and continue to show you the best in beauty!

Because of you lovely bridies, this past bloggy year has been truly incredible.  I just want you to know that I don't take anything for granted when it comes to blogging and have had some real pinch me moments, and still do almost every week.  I still can't believe that I get to go to cool launches and events and as long as I'm asked, I'll do my best to vlog and bring you along with me.  While the blog has won a couple of awards this year (and I still can't believe that), it hasn't changed how I go about blogging.  While it's nice to have some recognition for all the hard work that goes into the whole process, I don't see myself as better than anyone and was more shocked than anyone at winning the awards this year (hence the crying at the Aussie awards and the lack of nice outfit at the Image awards!)

This past year has been a challenge in terms of trying to stay on top of things both in real life and in bloggy life.  I've had a lot going on behind the scenes and just like when I started the blog 4 years ago, it has provided me with the best distraction.  When I'm taking photos and writing about all things beauty, I get to forget about any crap that's going on.  So I'd heartily recommend blogging if you need to focus on something else and sure makeup is always a brilliant distraction!

What have I learned over the past bloggy year?
One of the biggest issues for me is to go easy on myself, especially over the last few months.  I've been constantly exhausted from work and have found it a real struggle to keep things up to date on the blog.  I'm usually a week ahead of myself but have been playing catch up since the middle of July and while I have so much to blog about (I've currently 76 drafts posts waiting to be finished), I've felt really overwhelmed.  Not enough to make me throw in the towel or anything,  I've just had to try and get as much work done on the weekends because I just don't have the time or energy during the week.  So sometimes I don't get a blog post up on a Friday and you know what?  It's ok.  I'd rather have 4 great quality posts during the week than stick up a fifth one just because.

There are a few things I want to work on improving over the next bloggy year.  I want to be more organised when it comes to emailing people back.  I don't have much time during the work day to be online and I'm such a gobshite for mentally replying to texts, tweets and emails and forget to actually reply!

This has turned into a big mad waffly post and I've cut it down even to this!

What I wanted to basically say is thank you.  Thank you for sticking with the blog for as long as you have and if you're new here, thank you for taking the time to have a look around.  Thank you for each and every comment, tweet, DM and email you send because feedback and chats are very important to us!

So to thank you for everything, we've got some giveaways coming up over the next couple of weeks thanks to some very generous brands altogether!  Stay tuned and keep an eye on the hashtag #LovelyGirlieBlogoversary so you don't miss anything!

Sponsored video - Daytime, evening & vampalicious look - TK Maxx Big Brand Beauty!

If you know me at all, you'll know that I love browsing through the beauty aisles of TK Maxx.  Whenever we go in to a branch, (Blanchardstown is my favourite one, followed by the new Ilac Centre shop) mam and Joanne head off to the clothes and shoes and I set up camp in the beauty section.

It's my happy place.  And unlike Boots where it's a straightforward shopping experience, TK Maxx is like searching for treasure because you never know what you're going to find in there.  Case in point, when I was in Blanchardstown on Saturday, I went through everything 3 times and at the end of each round, I kept finding new bits.  Finally, an hour later, I was satisfied that I'd seen everything and found all my goodies!

Last week they had a Big Brand Beauty Drop where a million products landed in branches across the country.  This made me very happy and very excited as you can imagine.  This is what beauty junkies like me wait to hear!  I was given the opportunity by TK Maxx to go shopping to pick up some products and show you a look that you can create with them.  I wasn't happy creating just one look, because this is me and makeup, so I've made a video showing a daytime look, amped up a bit more for an evening look and then went full on va va voom for the final look!   I have to admit, I love the dark eyes and dark lips and think I'll have to recreate this again for a special event.

As I explain in the video, you know the way TK Maxx works and they generally only have a couple of each item and when it's gone, it's gone.  So I haven't shown you what products I've used because if you see something you love, and then go to search for it, chances are it'll be gone and then you'll be devastated forever and ever Amen.  Maybe not, but you know what I mean!  This is essentially to show you that they have fantastic stuff in there at the moment, so go in for a squizz and see what gems you can find!

So tell me, are you a TK Maxx fiend like moi?  Have you picked up a great bargain from there recently?

Review - Darphin The Revitalizing Oil

Now that it's autumn, it's time for me to get back into my oils.  If there's one thing that always makes an instant difference to my face when it's chillier outside and warmer inside, it's a good facial oil and this absolute beauty from Darphin is the perfect one to kick start my oily love this year.  Readers, meet The Revitalizing Oil.  You're going to love each other.

Ok, where do I begin?  First up, it's a multipurpose oil that can be used on the face, hair and body but I ain't wasting a drop of this on my body!  Nuh huh girlfriend.  I mainly use a pump full on my face at night, warmed up between my palms and whatever's left on my hands is applied through the ends of my hair and worked into my cuticles.  Second of all, the scent.... Oh it smells like being in spa with it's soothing, comforting fragrance that's both light and delicate and yes, I do take a little moment to inhale the scent when I'm applying it to my visage.  It's all part of the ritual, so I like to tell myself anyway.

This little bottle is packed full of oils including essential oils like ylang ylang, rosewood, jasmine and lavender which help nourish and protect the skin.  It absorbs into my skin within minutes and that's when the next phase of the experience happens.  The touching of the face.  My skin feels super soft after a couple of minutes of soakage uppage of the oil and any night I use it, I don't bother with a moisturiser.

The Revitalizing Oil feels so much more expensive than it's €29 and if you're looking to try something from Darphin without breaking the bank, then this is a great one to start with.  You know I love the CC cream from the brand and now they're two for two in the products I've tried so far.

This will be on counters this month and I urge you to visit it, smell it, try it and fall in love with it.  Your face will thank you when everyone else is going around this autumn and winter with a big scaldy face on them and you'll be hydrated, glowy and delighted with life!

Kylie Jenner inspired lip tutorial with NYX, Essence & MUFE

The Kylie Jenner lip.  We've all heard of it at this point and if you haven't, we got problems girlfriend...  She's brought the 90s lip back with a bang and while she hasn't quite gone down the brown lips route just yet, she's been rocking the matte dark dusky pink lip like nobody's business.

Now nobody knows for sure whether she's gotten her lips done as she's denied plastic surgery rumours (who you kiddin' Kylie?) , but I'd put a few bob on it that there are some fillers in there and combined with the serious amount of overdrawing she does, she's got a killer shape now.  I can't overdraw my lips too much because I feel like a numpty, but a little bit of careful shaping is good enough for me.

As I'm on a spending ban (again), I had a root through my stash to see if I had anything that I could use to create this matte lip and these three products spoke to me.  After playing around with them a bit, I knew I was on to a winner!

NYX Jumbo Lip Pencil 721 Soft Fuchsia, Essence Lipliner 04 Honey Bun, MUFE HD Powder
Let's get down to business with this quick and easy 4 step tutorial shall we?

Step 1

Starting off with Essence Lip liner in shade 04 Honey Bun, draw around the outer edges of the lips.  Overdraw as much or as little as you like.  Taking time to get the right shape is time well spent, so don't rush it!

Step 2

Colour in the rest of your lips with the liner.

Step 3

To give the lips more dimension, I used NYX Jumbo Lip Pencil in Shade 721 Soft Fuchsia all over the lips, stopping at the outer edges.  This is slightly lighter in colour to the liner so gives the illusion of more plump lips.

Step 4

We all know that it's the matte effect that really gives the Kylie Jenner lip, so I took some of my Make Up For Ever HD powder and dusted it over the entire lips, patting it in with my fingers to make sure it was all absorbed in.

And that's it!

If you're looking to give the Kylie Jenner 90s lip a go, then have a squizz in your stash.   Any dusky pink lipliner will do the job and any translucent powder will give the matte finish we need.  My lips are nowt like hers and if I went all out, overdrew the living Jaysis out of them, you would think I'd lost my dang mind.  So this is a wearable version that I'd happily go out in public with!
