Lovely Girlie Bits makes the news!

You can't bring us anywhere!  As you might know by now, we're in New York for Thanksgiving, family time and lots of shopping!  After watching some of the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade, we decided to have a scootch in some of the shops that were open along 34th street.  Most of them were closed as they'd barricaded the street for most of the day.  We did some damage in Old Navy where everything in the shop was 50% off and then we went to K Mart for the craic.  They always have the tackiest Christmas clothes and as we were messing around with monstrosities like these:

The next thing we knew, a photographer came over and was taking our photo, telling us he worked for the associated press and was covering people shopping on Thanksgiving.  He decided this was the shot he wanted with Joanne messing and took her details!  This evening we had an aul google to see if we could find her and yes, the photo is everywhere!  Just search for "Joanne De Korte Thanksgiving" and you'll find her and Lovely Mammy Bits all over the interwebs!

This is the third time we've been in the media for Thanksgiving!  We made the Daily News twice and now this!  Best day ever!

Max Factor Excess Shimmer Gel Eyeshadows - photos, swatches, review!

Max Factor Excess Shimmer Gel Eyeshadows - you have the weirdest, longest name ever of a product, but I won't hold it against you because you're gorgeous.  Newly launched, I'm here to give you the heads up on these little pots because they're something you definitely need to check out.

There are six shades in the collection and hopefully Max Factor will bring out more in the future.  Yes, they're shimmery, but not over the top, so I don't know where they're going with their "excess shimmer", but they leave a lovely soft metallic finish on the lids that makes the neutral shades work friendly.  There are some dud shades in the collection so I'll get them over with first shall I?

Crystal is a pale green shade that never should have been invented.  It's obviously channelling the 80s, possibly The Golden Girls, but if you like shimmery green shades then knock yourself out with this.

Pearl is nice as an all over wash of colour on the lids but would definitely look better used in conjunction with the black shade at the bottom.  But for the purpose of swatches, this is what it looks like on it's own and would make a nice inner corner highlight.  Any snow queens out there will like this one.

Pink Opal is a pale pinky lilacy shade that didn't float my boat at all at all.

Now we're on to the good 'uns.  Copper isn't copper at all.  It's more of a taupey shade and reminds me of MAC's Patina.  I've worn this so many times to work as a wash of colour on the lids and it makes for the perfect neutral eye.  This is the must have for me followed closely by the next shade...

Bronze should have been called Copper but I'll let it away with it.  The deep reddy brown undertones add warmth to the eyes and if you have green eyes like moi, then this will be a must have for you.  I like to pack it on to the lid and blend into the crease for an easy neutral eye with a bit more oomph.

Finally for the rock chicks out there or those of us who like dark eye makeup, then Onxy and it's pewtery goodness is worth a look.  It's packed full of shimmer but leaves the eye with a relatively natural metallic sheen which you can build upon with either more of this or eyeshadow.

As someone with oily eyelids, I have to use a primer every day.  When I don't, eyeshadows crease on me and these do crease, but with a primer, they set and don't budge.  I'm talking application at 6am and coming home at 4.30pm and they're still in place.  You can't get much better than that eh?

These guys are all €9.99 and the darker three are definitely the ones that will sell out and once you swatch them yourself, you'll see why.  They're on counters now so go forth and get 'em on your eyelids!

Lush Christmas 2014

There's something really comforting about Lush when it comes to Christmas for me.  I don't know if it's because I feel the need to take more baths so I can use up and try their goodies, or because I have my festive favourites that I purchase year after year and they give me the feel good factor at Christmas.  Either way, I love Lush at Christmas and here's why!

Dashing Santa smells citrussy, zingy and uplifting and he'll be dashing around your bath like a good thing as soon as you plop him into the water!

The Holly Golightly bubble bar just makes me happy with the amount of glitter it has!  Yes, it will get everywhere and yes, it'll be a pain to clean your bath afterwards but look at it...  You can get a couple of baths out of this and it smells warm and spicy.  I can't wait to try this one.

The Drummers Drumming reusable bubble bar is so cute and bright and will be a winner if you like uplifting scents with it's bergamot notes.  I much prefer this scent to the Magic Wand bubble bar and you need to go investigate it!

It's glitter glare with the Star Light, Star Bright silver bath melt that leave your skin feeling so soft (albeit covered it glitter, but it's Christmas so you can get away with that).  And please take a look at the Snow Angel Bath Melt.

Equally glittery, fans of marzipan scents will love this and it has cocoa butter which will leave your skin feeling soft as a snow angel.

I'm not one for soaps really but this one, Yog Nog, smells incredible!  Yes, I might have wanted to lick it to see if it tasted like it's caramel scent and no, I didn't actually do it.  Joanne stopped me thank God but I think I want some of this to just sit and smell because it smells like a festive Starbucks drink.  The end.  It's fab.

As always, Lush have Christmas gifts sorted this year, with pre wrapped goodies for every budget.  If you're looking for a stocking stuffer or secret Santa present, then head in and try to pick just one thing out, but don't be afraid if you see something for yourself too... You're totally allowed to treat yourself.  Fact.

I have a million photos of every Christmas treat that Lush has this year, but do yourself a favour, head in yourself and watch some of the products in action, give everything a sniff, cover yourself in glitter and go shopping!

What's your favourite Christmas Lush product?  I think mine has to be the Christmas Eve bubble bar because the scent of jasmine can knock me out like nothing else.  Oh and a special mention has to go to the Golden Wonder bath bomb because it's the gift that keeps on giving!

Wet n Wild Comfort Zone palette - a must have for one reason!

I'm sure you've probably heard of the Comfort Zone palette from Wet n Wild by now and despite having it in my stash for a while now, it's only recently that I've been playing around with it properly. Such is the life of a beauty blogger with too much makeup and not enough eyeballs.

This eight pan palette is filled to the brim with neutral, earthy toned eyeshadows, each one softer and more buttery that the rest.  But one shade has my heart and you can probably tell from the photo above and the description of the shade being worn away from lots of love.  I would like to introduce you to the one stop smokey eye shadow - aka that one on the bottom left.  It's labelled as a definer, but I've been slathering it all over my eyelids like a good thing lately with nothing else and this is why....

This is one eyeshadow people!  I do love a good duo chrome eyeshadow and this one, a brilliant dupe for MAC's Club eyeshadow, is a doozy.  It has a warm, brown base with red undertones combined with that green shimmer and together, they're a perfect blend.  If you pack the colour onto the lid, then the green shows up more and if you blend the edges, the brown takes hold and makes this the perfect one shadow smokey eye.  For an even more metallic finish to the lids, apply it wet and the green will stand out even more.  For something even smokier, apply brown eyeliner to the waterline and you're good to go.

To be honest, the other shades haven't really gotten much loving yet, but I'll get around to them!  I've given them a few goes and they're a neutral eye lover's dream, but this shade has my heart and my eyes.  €6.49 is piddlin' money and so go root around in your purse for change and get this now.  You can find Wet n Wild in selected chemist nationwide and in Dunnes Stores, so no excuse not to pick it up!

Vlog! Christmas at Space NK!

Joanne and I visited Space NK recently to see what they have in store for us this Christmas and they didn't let us down!  It was Joanne's first time in there and I think she's been bitten by the beauty bug, finally!  Orla and Mark showed us around the many beauty gift sets and there really is something for all budgets, and if you're looking for something nice even for a secret Santa gift, then do yourself a favour and get into Grafton Street.  Actually, watch this video and *then* go in to town!

They've everything organised into categories, so whether you're looking for a stocking stuffer, something under €35 or over €55, you'll have no problem at all picking out some really lovely gifts and the best thing about gift sets?  They require minimum wrapping - result!

I've got my eye on some of these bad boys and with my birthday right before Christmas, Joanne knows where to go to make it easy for herself!

See anything that tickles your pickle?

Guest post - The Parisian Bride!

A couple of months ago, Joanne and I were at a wedding and met the chicest sisters ever, Sinead and Sarah Lyons who have set up The Parisian Bride, an Irish bridal jewellery and accessories website, back in March 2014.  If only we'd known about this when Joanne was organising her wedding!  Sarah runs the Dublin end of things while Sinead is based in Paris and going through the website and this blog post below made me want to organise a wedding, or at least have Joanne renew hew vows, complete with guna and all the stunning pieces on The Parisian Bride!

As our mammies played our PRs at the wedding, I knew I'd have to get the girls on board for a guest post for anyone out there who's planning a wedding and needs a bit of help in the finishing touches area with their wedding look.  And Joanne could've used their help big time because without fail, every lunch time leading up to her wedding, I'd have text after text with photos of this pair of earrings, that bracelet, what do I think of this hair clip, is this too big, is it too small and sure what would I know about those kinds of things!

The girls are nominated in the Weddingsonline awards this year!  And quite rightly so!  They're in the Newcomer of the Year category and we'd love for them to end this year on a high and win, so if you've a few minutes and are feeling generous, head over here to give them your vote and then come back here to read all of their fantastic tips and tricks!

Take it away girls!

Wow, what an honour to be guest blogging on this amazing award winning site. Thank you girls for the wonderful opportunity! We met Karen and Joanne at, appropriately enough a wedding, and clicked over our mutual love of all things makeup and fashion! Speaking of weddings if you havent already seen it, you have to check out Joanne’s fabulous wedding photos featured in Confetti magazine; now there is a girl who put on one classy wedding.

So, you have your dress, venue, menus planned and flowers picked, now it’s time to put some thought into your finishing touches. That is your jewellery, accessories and those little extras to complete your wedding look.

At The Parisian Bride we have four golden rules (bear with us!!) for choosing your jewellery and bridal accessories:

1. Know your style of dress and compliment it accordingly. Your jewellery and accessories should enhance and draw attention to you without overpowering your overall look.

2. Be true to your own style. Pick pieces you love and not what you think is expected. Every bride has her own personal style and this does not need to be compromised on your wedding day. For example, do not be afraid to choose something modern and contemporary over say traditional pearls. While pearls are fabulous and very bridal they are not necessarily for everyone.

3. Give yourself enough time to make your choice. It often happens that with all the planning and organising for the big day, a bride can overlook her wedding jewellery and accessories and end up making a rushed decision.

4. Don’t cut corners, quality lasts a lifetime.

Bridal jewellery does not need to be for one day only, it can be worn time and time again, for special occasions, anniversaries, parties etc. We love re-wearing our wedding jewellery, and seeing it in its jewellery box or on the dressing table make all the memories come flooding back.   It’s a wonderful thing to be able to keep and maybe even pass on down the line, so we feel it is wise to invest in at least one piece that will last and last.

At the Parisian Bride we want to bring our ladies something elegant, fabulous and above all special.  Most of our brands are new to Ireland and we keep only small amounts to ensure exclusivity.  Also if there is something specific you have in mind but cannot find it, contact us and we will source it for you. If we can’t find it not we will get someone to make it!

To all you ladies who are already married or have not taken the plunge yet, you are not forgotten! If you looking for the perfect piece to glam up your outfit as a wedding guest or just something fab for a day or night out,  we also have occasion jewellery.  And as you will see below much of our jewellery is very versitile and can be worn to lots of different events. Here are some of our favourite pieces, and we hope you love them as much as we do.

Love necklace.

Handmade in the fashion capital of the world, Paris!  This beautiful necklace is made with freshwater pearls and crystals interwoven with rose gold silk thread.  It can be worn on it's own as a fabulous statement piece, or with the matching bracelet to complete the look.  We would style this necklace with a strapless wedding dress that does not have too much detail or embellishment as it will really enhance the overall look and impact of your wedding dress.  It would also be perfect for dinner on your honeymoon paired with a classic little black dress for some true Parisian style.

Paris clutch.

This clutch bag has been exclusively designed for the Parisian Bride by Ale Walsh.  There is nothing else like it on the market.  It's made from Acacia wood and covered in beautiful mother of pearl.  This stunning clutch is like owning a set of pearls, it will stand the test of time.  As this bag is very classic and elegant, we feel it could be styled with most wedding dresses and bridal looks.  Again, like a lot of our pieces, this bag is not limited to your wedding day and can be worn again and again for different occasions.  A true heirloom piece.  (This is Karen here, I fell in the absolute love with this when we met the girls at the family wedding and it is STUNNING!)

Marilyn mini lace cap.

This beautiful tear drop lace cap will add classic elegance to your wedding look.  Hats and hairpieces are having a bit of a moment right now, which we love, and a fab piece lilt this can really transform and make a look.  The hand spun veiling can be trimmed to our own desired length, so if you only want a hint of lace over your face or eye area, this is no problem.  We are fully aware that every bride differs on how much or how little they like their veiling!  With headpieces like this as with any accessory you decide to wear, your hairdresser is your best friend.  So if you are going to wear something like this, have it with you at your hair trial so that you and your hairdresser can figure out exactly how you want it to look.  No one wants to see a fabulous piece ruined by the wrong hairstyle. Also, don't cut or trim any lace until you have decided on your final look with your hairdresser.  While this headpiece has a definite vintage look to it, do not feel that you need to be having a forties themed wedding to wear it.  The Marilyn is a timeless, classic piece that can work with many wedding looks and it's available in ivory and champagne.

Mary earrings.

These fabulous pearl and crystal earrings are by American designer Roberta Chiarella.  We love them as they are a beautiful classic style pearl earring while at the same time having a bit of an edge.  As we said in our golden rules, many brides feel that because it's their wedding day, they must wear pearls or something traditionally "bridal".  This is not one of our rules and as we said ladies, be true to your own style!  That being said, pearls are not to be written off and they do add a certain something to a bridal look.  We think these earrings strike the perfect balance between your classic pearl and something contemporary and cool.  Perfect for your wedding day and many date nights after!  Again, think honeymoon, LBD...

Minnelli Shrug.

This gorgeous shrug from the wonderful ladies at Sasso Bridal is made from the softest marabou feathers.  As we all know girls, Irish weather is not the warmest or the most predictable, and while this shrug is one of our favourites for winter weddings, it cannot be ruled out for summer weddings.  Fur is classic and seasonless (the great Anna Wintour herself wore a fur stole to George Clooney's recent Venetial wedding - sigh!), and it adds major glamour to any outfit.  We have one to match all shades of wedding dress and skin tones as it comes in Pearl, Ivory and Vintage cream, with other colours available on request.  The Pearl colour works particularly well on our Irish skin!  Think glamorous fur stole with a pouty red lip, fabulous!

Little Extras.

Don't forget your garter ladies... This one is perfect for your something new and blue.  No explanations needed here!
We hope that this brief blog helps those of you in the midst of wedding fever.  And remember ladies, if it is all becoming too much or you are on the verge of calling it all off, we're only a click or a phone call away!  To finish, we will leave you with the immortal words of the greatest lady of them all, Coco Chanel, who said "above all, a girl should be two things; classy and fabulous".  So heed those words and enjoy and have fun!

Thanks so much ladies for this brilliant blog post!  We might be on to you next year when wedding season hits again!

And don't forget to vote for the girls for Newcomer of the year here in the Weddingsonline awards,  follow them on twitter here and visit TheParisianBride.ie for lots more beautiful pieces to covet for your wedding!

Charlotte Tilbury Bitch Perfect review, photos

It was inevitable that Charlotte Tilbury's KISSING lipstick Bitch Perfect would be mine.  I should have bought it on the launch day but no, I was trying to be all good and restrained after buying other products from the collection and yet despite everything I bought, I still couldn't stop thinking about this.  The one that got away.  So a couple of days after that, I went to Brown Thomas, ready to buy it only for it to be out of stock.  For weeks!

Finally we were brought together by the universe and here it is....

Bitch Perfect is me in lipstick form.  It's warm, peachy and corally and if you know me, you know I love me some peachy corals.  It's really pigmented and feels thicker than most other lipsticks in my collection, but still feels nice and comfy on the lips.

It's a neutral enough shade, not nude, and it's warmth just lifts my complexion something fierce.  It totally works with my skin tone and I think it compliments my eyes only lovely!

On me, it's definitely more of a neutral lipstick than a nude one and while I love it, it's got spring and summer written all over it for me.  I still want a nude lippie from Charlotte Tilbury and might have to investigate Nude Kate or Penelope Pink, especially in the run up to Christmas when I'm working a smokey eye all the time!

But for a natural day time look, Bitch Perfect is gorgeous....  It was worth the wait and prepare to see it all the time on me after Christmas!

Charlotte Tilbury's range is available to buy in Brown Thomas and I urge you to check it out and dare you to try to leave empty handed.  I'll be showing you the Christmas range in an upcoming vlog, so stay tuned for that!

So tell me this and tell me no more, are you loving Bitch Perfect?  Apart from Coachella Coral (which you know I have and love), what's the next lipstick from Charlotte that I need to try?  Enable me like you know you want to...

Space NK Wish Upon A Star event, Wednesday 19th November!

The rules of life firmly state that when one is shopping for Christmas presents for loved ones, you are absolutely allowed to pick up a little something for yourself.  That is the rule and I didn't just make it up this minute while thinking of how to start this post.  We all know it's allowed and this Wednesday, November 19th, Space NK have something truly amazing!  And it's a win win situation for everyone involved.

Let me explain.  So yes, chances are you're getting ready to do some Christmas shopping for loved ones.  Joanne and I went to Space NK last week to see their Christmas sets and hand on heart, they're fantastic and if I wasn't going away next week, I'd have picked up some treats.  And knowing me, I'll end up getting some bits in December because I love me some sets around the festive season.

Now, this Wednesday, 19th of November, Space NK have a beauty event, one that's going to make you sit up and take notice.  When you spend €200 or more on your Christmas shopping (for you or a loved one of course) you get this fantastic gift bag....

Seriously, they've outdone themselves this time and a little glance will tell you that you get an Eve Lom Cleanser, a Diptyque candle, a Lipstick Queen Vesuvius Liquid Lipstick, a Ren Emollient Rescue Cream, a Sai Sei Mineral Seaweed Bath Soak, Living Proof Prime Style Extender, Cowshed Moisturising Hand cream, an Erborian BB Cream, Life Daily Fix Foot Cream, Aromatherapy Associates Essential Bath and Shower Oils, a Rodial Lip Balm and a Kevin Aucoin eyeliner.  These guys are all full size!

Now, if that wasn't enough to tempt you into being nice to your loved ones and getting them something special from Space NK, they've only gone and put a €50 gift card into the gift bag....

I know....  That's just the icing on a pretty fantastic cake as it is!  So do yourself a favour, ring Space NK on Grafton Street at 01-677-8615 and book your place today.  And then you can get a head start on your shopping, treat yourself and have €50 to spend before Christmas!

Tell me if you go and make sure to say hi to Mark and Orla who showed us around last week and will make you want to buy all the things!

Happy shopping!

Make your own Christmas Jumpers with Lovely Girlie Bits!

So here's the first of our festive videos and hopefully we'll have lots more for you between now and Christmas!  We decided to upload this one now because the party season is fast approaching and in case you're on the market for the tackiest Christmas jumpers known to man, you might want to give one of these a go!

The Christmas tree one is pure tack.  We have tinsel, we have battery operated lights, we have a star and we blahddy love it!  We saw this photo on Pinterest and it took ages to find the proper owner of the photo!  But we were completely inspired to try it ourselves with with a little extra added bonus of lights.  You could do this to any old jumper you have,  we picked a hoodie because we were in Penneys looking for inspiration, saw one in green and red and immediately knew it was a sign and picked 'em up.

The Santa inspired jumper is easy peasy to do, is less tacky (slightly) than the Christmas tree one but just as festive.

So have a look at how we managed to make a holy show of ourselves with these amazingly festive, tacky and tinsel-tastic Christmas jumpers!

Make sure you subscribe to our channel here so you don't miss any of our festive videos in the lead up to Christmas!

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush - Blissful, photos, review

As you know well by now, I am a Tarte fanatic and somehow I've managed to amass a grand collection of the Amazonian Clay blushes.  They are simply faboosh and it hurts my little heart (but not my wallet) that we can't get them here in Ireland.  I know we can order from Sephora but it's not the same sure it's not?  So in an effort to help you decide whether to take the plunge and order from Sephora, I'll be showing you my stash in action with cheek swatches galore, ok?

This is Blissful.  Don't I look blissful wearing it?

Blissful is described as a shimmering warm peach and while I don't find it shimmering at all at all, it is most definitely peach.  A corally peach.  See?

Of all of the Tarte blushes in my stash, this is the least pigmented when it comes to swatching, but it's texture is also different to the others.  It feels more compact and hard in the pan and I find if I rub my finger on it to swatch it, not much comes off, so I'm not sure if has developed one of those much loathed films that plagued a MAC MSF I had once, or if it's just the formulation of this particular shade.  But once I work a brush into it properly, swirling and digging into it, I can get more product out of the pan and onto my face.

I use this Tarte blush brush that I got in a set a couple of years ago and this shape is grand for getting stuck into the pan and getting some of the blush out.  A quick swoosh over the apples of my cheeks and voila.  A healthy glow that looks completely natural and stays put all day.

And you can see in the close up shot below that you can't see it on my skin at all.  There's something special about these Tarte blushes and Blissful is just beautiful.  As I'm perpetually exhausted, it's nice to lash a bit of this on to give life to my mush and pretend I've had a grand night's sleep!

Do you have any of the Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes?  Which is your favourite shade and which one do I need to try next?
