New No7 Matte Liquid Lips shades review, photos, swatches!

Question 1.  Who knew about No7's Matte Liquid Lips??  Question 2.  If you knew about them, why didn't you tell me about them?!  I really do feel like No7 is underrated as a brand and thanks to this trio that were sent to me a couple of weeks ago, I'm going to make it my mission to try out more of their products. But let's start with these shall we?

No7 have added three new shades to their collection, making a total of nine shades altogether.  These promise moisturised, matte lips with unrivalled staying power with a demi matte finish and as someone with dry lips, I was excited to try them out.

All three new shades are pretty neutral, easy to wear and have serious colour payoff.  As far as the claims go, the demi-matte finish really does keep my lips feeling moisturised and has almost a satin finish, but they don't set at all.  Now this is a good thing and a bad thing.  The good thing is that they don't dry out the lips because they don't set, and the bad thing is that there's transfer like with a normal lipstick.  So if you're on the hunt for something that will stay put all day, you'll probably have to look elsewhere.  But if like me you want something comfortable to wear and don't mind reapplying, then these are definitely worth checking out.

No 7 Matte Liquid Lips left-right: Faith, Victory, Freedom

No 7 Matte Liquid Lips - Faith
Faith is for the true nude lovers out there and on its own, it's very pale for me.  I like using it layered on top of Victory, patted in the middle of my lips, helping to add a bit of fullness.  But solo, it's fierce nude altogether!

No 7 Matte Liquid Lips - Victory
Victory is a warm caramel terracotta shade and is my favourite of the three.  It's a real summery shade that would work well in autumn too and I can only imagine how good it will look with a tan!

No 7 Matte Liquid Lips - Freedom
I love Freedom as an autumn shade in that it's a mix of a dusky pink and a plum.  It's very flattering on, is probably the most wearable of the three on me and I love it!

The Matte Liquid Lips are €11.75 and if you buy two or more No7 cosmetics products before June 5th, you'll get a No7 summer gift set worth €32 for free!   Sure it'd be a sin not to pick up a couple of bits for your holidays and then get the free gift eh?!

Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation review, before & after photos!

You might've heard me mention once or twice my pure love for my Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and when I recently finished my bottle, I put it on my list of things to buy on my holidays.  It came to holiday time and when I was in the duty free, what did I do?  Did I repurchase the Luminous Silk?  No.  No I did not.  I knowwwwww!  Shurrup yew.

I took a notion and went rogue, buying the Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation.  And to make things even wilder, I bought it without researching, without swatching, without any kind of googling or review reading.  I'd not heard much about it at all really and don't know what came over me but I when a notion takes you, you have to go with it.  I've bought things before without researching and it hasn't worked out, but I'm so relieved that this did!

The formula is thicker than the Luminous Silk Foundation and where I've been known to use two pumps of Luminous Silk on days where I want a bit more coverage for my giant mush, two pumps of Power Fabric is way too much.  One and a bit pumps does me just grand and you'll be able to seen the photos below the kind of coverage it gives.  Also, it's worth noting that in Luminous Silk, I'm shade 5 and in Power Fabric, I'm 3.5, so if you're buying online, don't automatically buy the same shade.

On to the nitty gritty now.  We're talking medium coverage and it's buildable too to a higher coverage.  But like with most of the foundations I use, I generally leave it at the first layer, and if I do need something extra, I tend to just apply it to my cheeks and chin, but for the photos in the post, I've used a pump and a bit of product for one even layer.

It gives a really natural finish despite the coverage, and it has a soft luminosity to it, which takes the edge off the matte factor.  It also feels really lightweight on the skin, but there is a slight tackiness to it that I have to set with powder, just for my own sanity.  As an oily skinned person, I can't feel comfortable if I can feel any kind of moisture on my face.  I love when my skin feels matte, but doesn't look flat or cakey.  That's not too much to ask is it?

I've applied it with a couple of foundation brushes but have found that the best thing to give a flawless application is the Beauty Blender.  I had the same thing with my Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation and my Estee Lauder Double Wear.  Using brushes is grand with them but a sponge is where the magic happens and it just gives the illusion of beautiful skin.

I find that about 4-5 hours after I apply it, it seems to look even better on my skin and about 6 hours after initial application, it starts to break down slightly on my nose, and I mean slightly.  I'm being really picky just because of the price!  But by the end of the day, it still looks gorgeous on and a little dab of powder helps it stay longer if I'm heading out after work.

When I first used this, bits of my skin were a bit dry and it did cling to those bits, wrecking my head altogether.  But now it sits perfectly on me.  So if you've normal/oily skin, this will work better for you than if you'd dry skin.

Now, it's €49, but I got mine in The Loop for €34.  So if you're off on holidays anytime soon and want to save a few bob, that's where you get it.  I'm going to continue using it this summer as I think it's such a beautiful foundation and when I finish the bottle, because I will absolutely finish it, I'd be happy to pay €49 for it, just because it's a truly gorgeous base for me and my skin.

Urban Decay Double Team Mascara Deep End, Vice, Dime/Goldmine review, photos!

In the summer, I LOVE wearing colour on my eyes, but as a bridie of a certain age, I have to limit myself or else I'll look demented.  I can't get away with a block of colour on the lids... Ok, maybe I could, but I don't have the confidence, but what I absolutely love doing during the sunnier months is to have a bit of craic with coloured liner and mascaras, especially on the lower lashes.  There's nothing like a neutral eye, or a bronze one teamed up with a pop of colour on the lower lashes!

Urban Decay have launched their Double Team Mascaras (which can be used on the brows too, but I can tell you now, I really don't think I can pull off turquoise brows!). I think these would be brilliant for festivals (again, I am too old for them) or if you like wearing colour when you're on holidays (I am not too old for holidays), then they're definitely worth checking out!

I was sent three of them to play with and I know I'll be reaching for them over the next few months.  I've tried coloured mascaras over the years that haven't impressed me with the colour pay off but these are amazing!  They're intense, are not for the faint hearted and are perfect for this time of the year!  When playing with them, I tried them with and without a base coat of black mascara underneath and there wasn't much difference.  I just did it to see what the story was.

Look at the colours!!

Deep End is my favourite as I'm partial to all things turquoise, teal and bright when it comes to mascaras!  The metallic and cream ends are equally as impressive as each other and I can't pick a favourite side.  I think this is the mascara I'll get the most use out of, followed closely by the next one.  In the photos below, I applied Deep End over black mascara, just for a bit more oomph.  Can you cope?  The answer is no.

If you have green eyes, you're going to love Vice with it's purple hues that make my eyes pop!  With this mascara, the metallic end isn't as glittery as the teal above, but maybe it would be if I applied it over black mascara.  I applied this mascara over bare bottom lashes to see how it looked.  The cream end (the bottom photo) is one of the most beautiful purples I've ever used and I'm obsessed.  Any other purple mascaras I've tried over the years have been too dark and I love how bright these two shades are.  I mean if you're going to go for colour, you might as well really go for it!

Dime/Goldmine is for the magpies among us with it's silver end and bright yellow gold on the other end.  I absolutely love these and while I lashed (har har!) them on over black mascara, I think a more subtle look could be achieved.  Imagine them just on the tips of the upper lashes... Yeah I'll have to play with them some more and also, wouldn't these be gorgeous for Christmas?!  Again, this is them applied over black mascara for a killer look and yes, this one is for the glitter lovers of us...

There's a pink version (Junkshow) in the collection too, and a blue version that has my name all over it (Gonzo).  I love blue on the eyes... So it shall be mine I think, for the blog and all don't ya know!

They're out now and at €23.50, they're pretty reasonably priced, considering you technically get two mascaras in one!  Which one is your favourite?

Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet Lipsticks - review, photos, swatches!

I've spoken at length over the years how much I love the Joli Rouge range from Clarins and now.... Now they've brought out a matte version of some of their existing Joli Rouge shades and I am obsessed.  See I do like a matte lip, but I don't always like the faff that comes with it and as someone with perpetually dry lips, I'm really picky about what kind of mattes I like.  The Joli Rouge Velvet Lipsticks are out now and I was sent four of the ten shades available to test out.  Wanna see?

Of the four I've tried, the colour payoff is seriously intense and the formula... well that's every dry lipped person's dream because it feels like butter on the lips!  Organic marsh samphire extract gives 6 hour hydration and the formula is enriched with apricot oil to help them feel comfortable on.

When applied, there's no pulling or tugging on the lips and it takes no time at all to get a gorgeous, even, opaque finish like in the photos below.  They don't give the typical flat finish you'd expect from a traditional matte lipstick, but there's a hint of satin luminosity to them, which I love.  There's movement and slip with them when I press my lips together and they do transfer on glasses and move when you eat, so if longevity is what you're after, maybe apply after you've had a nosh.

Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet Grenadine
Grenadine is a lovely rosy pink shade that's still quite neutral and wearable, despite being a slightly darker shade.  It's the type of colour that makes me look and feel like a lady, adding warmth to my complexion but still giving impact.  It's beautiful altogether.

Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet Pink Cranberry
Pink Cranberry was the surprise of the bunch!  If you know me, you'll know I don't usually go for brighter pinks when it comes to lipsticks, but this one wowed me loads!  It's totally in your face, but is perfect for summer and for bringing away on holidays.  This is one for the brave bridies!

Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet Soft Berry
Soft Berry is one of those everyday shades that's easy to wear and is a great spring/summer shade.  This is one I've been keeping in my handbag, ready to be whipped out at a moment's notice.  It's a great colour for the no makeup makeup days and is smack bang in my comfort zone!

Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet Joli Rouge
I. Can't. Cope!  The matte version of Clarin's famous Joli Rouge is just beautiful...  What I will say though is that it's a shade I'd use a lip liner with, just because it's so intense and any mistakes along the lip line are more obvious.  But in the photo above, I just used the lipstick from the bullet and took my time.  There's nowt like stripes and a red lip!

I think mattes like these are fantastic for those with dry lips, those with smaller lips and for those who enjoy a really comfortable lipstick, while wanting to carry on with the matte lip trend.  The Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet lipsticks are €24 each and are available now.  Will you be picking any up?
