One look - Two prices - Simple browns

Can you tell the difference between my two eyes?

This is the third installment of the One Look - Two Prices series :)  I must say I'm delighted with this one!  Above, we have a drugstore eye and a higher end makeup eye.

I just decided to do a very simple look once I decided what shadows I was going to use.  These are the products I used.

On one eye I used the ever so famous Satin Taupe from MAC and Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash Mascara, while on the other eye I used essence's eyeshadow in shade 09 and Collection 2000's Big Fake False Lash Effect Mascara.  Let's look at the shadows more closely.

You can see from the photos above that Satin Taupe has a slightly more purple undertone to it, where essence shade 09 has a gold undertone.  That being said, when they are applied, there is hardly any difference at all!  Have a look again:

So the reveal is on the left is MAC's Satin Taupe and on the right is essence shade 09!  Not bad at all considering that MAC shadows are €15 (thanks for that!) and essence shadows are €1.99.  The essence shadow is more crumbly than the MAC one but for a fraction of the cost, I would most definitely recommend you try the essence shadows, especially this one :)

What do you guys think?  Were you able to tell the difference?

  1. It's really impossible to tell with these 2 which is the higher end look. Loving this series!

  2. Great post Karen, no difference at all between the two. Do you find any difference in how they last?

  3. Thanks ladies, Mariga I'm going to wear the two of them on Sunday and see how they fare up against each other. I usually blog in the evening after work so it's literally put makeup on, take millions of pics, take makeup off hehe Will do an update, like maybe a start of day pic and end of day pic.

  4. Wow, the colours are identical! And at €2 for the essence eye shadow it would be a shame not to try it :o).

yeah i feel tres cool right now cause i already have this essence shade. Fantastic value, wear it every day as its very flatering. At night i use a darker shade of brown under my eye and around the socket to make it more dramatic. found that usung a makeup brush compacts it so find tip of my finger much better. Its very soft and flakey so have more control this way. Love it more now knowing it looks like Mac! Well done you. :0)
