Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet review with before & after photos

Sigh….  I don’t think I’ve ever wanted a product to work for me more than the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet foundation.  It was €39 and because of that and everyone’s rave reviews, I tried it so many different ways to see if I could look like a human person with it on.  Alas it wasn’t meant to be, so I’m here to give you my review so you won’t be feeling like a weirdo if it doesn’t work for you like it seems to be working for everyone else.

A few weeks ago, I picked up my bottle after reading rave reviews, popping my Chanel foundation cherry finally.  I have an oily t-zone with normal cheeks so it sounded absolutely perfect for me and in the spirit of my excitement, filmed a first impressions video.  In said video, I noticed immediately that it appeared to sit in the pores on my face, either side of my schnoz in particular, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried it the next day.  And the next.  And the day after that.  I tried it with three different primers.  I used different moisturisers too.  Some days I left it unpowdered and some days I lightly powdered my t-zone and each and every day was as bad as the previous one.  This foundation and I were just not meant to be. From a distance, it looks grand.  It evens out my complexion and covers redness, giving me a light to medium coverage with a matte finish.

But up close, it tells a different story.  I found that no matter what I did, it highlighted those pores on my face.  It highlighted any uneven texture I had on my skin.  It highlighted dry patches I didn’t know I had.  Basically, if there was anything I was trying to hide, it brought it to the forefront of everyone’s eyeballs.

It didn’t wear well on me throughout the day either.  I remember seeing myself in the mirror one day after lunch and thinking I actually looked ill!  It seemed to disappear from my face by about 2pm, except it had congealed in my pores, especially on my nose.  In short, it made my skin look awful.  Oh and I think I mentioned in the video that it was fragranced and I do like the scent of it, but my skin didn’t.  It broke me out across my nose and on my cheeks under my eyes.  Le sigh… Oh lads, this was a disaster and I’m so sad that it didn’t work for me like it has for everyone else!  It’s the only time I’ve ever preferred to go bare faced in work than wear this, that’s how much we didn’t get on.  I’m not saying it’s terrible, it just didn’t work on my visage and I’d gone in and bought it based on the reviews I’d read without trying it at the counter first.  So I had to tell you about my experience so you can a) make an informed decision when you go to buy it and b) not feel like you’re the only person in the world who hasn’t gotten on with something!  Which is pretty much how I feel now! Have you ever tried something that everyone in the whole world loved and not been able to make it work for you?
